Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer has launched the Smart CNG (S-CNG) version of the Alto 800. The BS6 compliant entry-level hatchback is available in two variants. The cost of the base LXi S-CNG variant is Rs 4.32 lakhs while the LXI(O) S-CNG option is priced at Rs 4.36 lakhs.

The new Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 S-CNG returns a maximum of 31.59 km/kg of CNG. It is the first BS6 compliant CNG model from the brand and in the future, the manufacturer will launch many more S-CNG BS6 cars in the market. The other cars that are available in S-CNG versions are Celerio, Ertiga and WagonR. However, these are not BS6 compliant yet.

The new Maruti Suzuki S-CNG vehicles including the new Alto 800 gets two independent Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and intelligent fuel injection system. The vehicles are tuned in the factory to deliver the optimum performance and also offer enhanced drivability. The system provides seamless shift between petrol and CNG fuels without stopping the vehicle.
It should be noted that Maruti Suzuki has announced that they will not offer any diesel-powered vehicles in the Indian market after the BS6 emission norm are implemented in the market. From 1st April, only petrol-powered vehicles will be available from the brand.
To come over the demand for the diesel cars, Maruti Suzuki is expected to come up with more S-CNG models for the sub -10 lakh rupees cars while the more expensive vehicles will get a 48V hybrid system in the coming times. Maruti Suzuki currently offers a slew of factory-fitted CNG cars including the all-new Ertiga. All the current CNG models will be updated to the BS6 norms.
