Maruti Suzuki has finally taken the wraps off the India-spec Maruti eVitara, its first all-electric SUV, marking a major milestone in the brand's transition toward EVs. Set to launch in early 2026, the eVitara arrives with a clear objective, to offer the reassurance, affordability, and nationwide support system that Maruti buyers expect, but in a fully electric form. The company also used the reveal event to showcase its broader EV roadmap, including charging infrastructure expansion, subscription plans, and its all-new Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. Maruti eVitara: BaaS, Subscriptions & Wide Charging Access

Maruti eVitara

With the Maruti eVitara, the brand's first Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) approach takes centre stage, offering buyers the option to subscribe to the battery instead of paying for it upfront. Alongside BaaS, Maruti will offer standard purchase and subscription models, giving customers freedom to choose the format that best suits their needs and budget. To support the eVitara, Maruti has already deployed over 2,000 fast chargers across 1,100+ cities, claiming it to be India's largest OEM-backed charging network. The eventual goal is even more ambitious, creating a web of one lakh chargers by 2030, in partnership with multiple charge-point operators and its own dealer ecosystem. The company says that, once fully rolled out, most urban EV users will find a charger every 5-10 km, a level of accessibility that could dramatically reshape India's EV practicality landscape.

A 5-Star Safety Statement: Maruti's Strongest Safety Package Yet

Built on the new HEARTECT-e architecture, the eVitara has already achieved a 5-star safety rating in both Adult and Child categories under BNCAP, making it the safest Maruti ever. The SUV integrates seven airbags as standard, along with a high-tensile steel structure engineered to meet global crash norms. Maruti has also included a comprehensive suite of driver-assist technologies, with Level-2 ADAS, an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, all-wheel disc brakes, a 360-degree camera system, TPMS and multiple collision avoidance aids. For a brand long viewed as conservative in the safety space, the eVitara marks a clear shift toward global-standard occupant protection.

Interior Experience: Premium Cabin With Plenty Features

Step inside, and the eVitara feels like an entirely new chapter for Maruti Suzuki. The dashboard features a clean, European-inspired layout anchored by a 10.1-inch floating infotainment screen paired with a 10.25-inch TFT driver display. The two-spoke steering wheel, floating centre console and fixed glass roof contribute to a light, open cabin experience. Maruti has also introduced mood lighting and premium materials that significantly elevate the ambience beyond anything previously offered in its lineup.

Comfort and convenience take a noticeable leap forward too. The front seats get ventilation, the driver's seat offers 10-way powered adjustment, and the rear seats are both sliding and reclining with a versatile 40:20:40 split. Features such as wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Infinity by Harman audio, connected car tech with smartwatch integration, a PM 2.5 air filter and multiple drive and regeneration modes make the cabin feel thoroughly modern and well equipped.

Powertrain Options: Two Battery Packs, Up To 543 km Range

Maruti eVitara

For its debut, Maruti is offering two battery pack choices with a front-wheel drive layout. The 49 kWh variant is paired with a 144 PS motor and is expected to be oriented toward efficiency-conscious buyers. The larger 61 kWh unit combines with a stronger 174 PS motor and delivers an ARAI-certified range of up to 543 km, placing it among the highest claimed ranges in its segment. While the launch lineup is FWD-only, Maruti has hinted that AWD may be explored later as part of the model's lifecycle expansion.

Verdict

The Maruti eVitara doesn't just introduce the company's first electric vehicle, it introduces an entire ecosystem built to support widespread EV adoption. From a flexible BaaS model and a rapidly growing fast-charging network to a focus on safety and a deeply modern interior, the eVitara shows that Maruti has studied the EV segment carefully and is aiming to start strong. If Maruti succeeds in executing its infrastructure promises and manages pricing strategically, the eVitara could become the EV that finally brings mass-market buyers into the electric mainstream, much like the Vitara Brezza did for compact SUVs.
