Renault Triber Turbo Launched; Prices Start At Rs 7.84 Lakh

Renault India has finally listened to the masses and put their 1.0 litre turbo engine in the Triber. It has been launched at Rs 7.84 lakh (ex-showroom), and the top variant costs Rs 9.20 lakh (ex-showroom). This engine produces 100 PS and 180 Nm of torque, which is surprising, as this engine makes 160 Nm of torque in Duster and Kiger. Also, Renault claims a claimed fuel efficiency of 21 kmpl, which is stupendous for a 1.0L turbo engine. Let's learn more about this news below.

The Triber receiving turbo is a clear indication of Renault India listening to the customers' feedback and reflecting the changes to make their products better. The Triber is the most affordable 7-seater MPV, and we at 91Wheels believe it is an underrated car, as 7 people can actually sit inside and cover long distances, and it provides the most value for money in the under Rs 10 lakh bracket. It's spacious, practical, and affordable and feels upmarket, plus the AC performance is fantastic. The only problem is the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. It feels adequate when there are 2 to 3 people inside, but when the car is fully loaded, the engine begs for more air; you can feel it run out of breath very early on. The result of this low power is extremely poor fuel efficiency, making it a pain to drive in metropolitan areas, and you cannot even think of taking it to the mountains. After all, how much can 72 PS and 96 Nm of torque do when there are 7 people with their luggage on board? 

Now, we have a 100 PS and 180 Nm engine mated to a 5-speed manual for now, but it is expected to get an automatic gearbox later. This will solve most of the problems, and we believe there will be no shortage of torque, as Renault has done something different with it: the 1.0L turbo makes 180 Nm of torque, which is 20 Nm more than the Renault Duster and Kiger. A reason for this tuning could be that the Triber is also used as a taxi, and we have seen the car with a carrier luggage and 7 people on board on highways, where it must be really challenging and tiring for the driver with a naturally aspirated engine. With 100 PS and 180 Nm of torque, the Triber should feel effortless over long distances.

Also, Renault says it does 0 to 100 kmph in less than 11 seconds, which is a serious improvement. Apart from a turbo badge at the rear, there are no changes made to its exterior, interior, and color options. The 1.0L naturally aspirated engine is still on sale, but when people experience the turbo on test drives, it will be hard for them to choose the NA version, considering its overall performance and how it fits the car.

After this launch, the Renault Triber Turbo has become the most torquey MPV under Rs 10 lakh, and its performance has received a serious upgrade. Will it reflect in more sales?
