Tata Harrier EV Top Speed Electronically Curbed! Weighs Over The ICE model

The anticipation around the Tata Harrier EV has been palpable, and while the launch has set things in motion, recent insights from Mr. Anand Kulkarni, Chief Products Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, have shed considerable light on what to expect from this electrifying SUV in terms of its top speed. According to Mr. Kulkarni, the Harrier EV QWD (Quad-Wheel Drive) will feature an electronically limited top speed of 180 kmph, putting it almost on par with its diesel counterpart. Interestingly, Kulkarni revealed that the vehicle could theoretically breach the 200 kmph mark without the electronic constraints, indicating a significant reserve of power. What's truly remarkable is its acceleration: the Harrier EV QWD sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in a scorching 6.3 seconds, making it the quickest accelerating passenger vehicle ever from Tata Motors.

Beyond sheer speed, the Harrier EV promises serious off-road prowess. Its electric powertrain delivers a substantial 504 Nm of peak torque instantly, providing ample grunt for challenging terrains. Complementing this are dedicated drive modes like Snow, Sand, and Rock Crawl, along with intelligent features such as off-road creep control and a transparent bonnet view, making it equally adept on trails as it is on tarmac.

Tata Harrier EV: HEAVIER Than The ICE

tata harrier ev

If you thought Harrier was heavy, meet Harrier EV! Naturally, the inclusion of a dual-motor setup and substantial battery packs adds considerable heft. The Harrier RWD model weighs in at 2235 kg, a good 300 kg more than the diesel, while the QWD tips the scales at 2,336 kg, over 400 kg heavier than its combustion engine sibling. However, Tata's engineers have diligently tackled this challenge, achieving an optimized 47:53 weight distribution for the Harrier EV. This meticulous balance ensures the SUV remains dynamically sound despite the increased mass, promising a stable and confident driving experience; however, we would be able to comment on its real-world prowess once we test drive the vehicle.

Verdict

The Tata Harrier EV emerges as a pretty neat package in the electric SUV segment. By seamlessly integrating thrilling performance figures, impressive range, and genuine off-road capabilities with thoughtful engineering to manage its added weight, Tata has crafted an electric vehicle that might just be the choice for those looking for a proper off-road friendly SUV. But can it really take on what's thrown at it just as efficiently as it does on paper? Stay tuned for when our review drops!
