The Skoda Kushaq may not offer the most spacious or feature-packed cabin in its segment, but it boasts a thoughtfully designed interior, lively engine choices, and commendable ride quality and handling. However, opting for the top-tier variants can be expensive, and the after-sales service may have some delays. Nevertheless, it remains a highly desirable SUV for those seeking a well-built and refined driving experience.

Variant Recommendation

author

The Skoda Kushaq offers a range of variants and editions to cater to diverse preferences. Starting with the budget-friendly Active variant, it's suitable for cost-conscious buyers, albeit lacking in most features. Positioned above the Active variant, the Onyx Edition mainly features cosmetic enhancements such as graphics and other changes, albeit at a higher cost. The Ambition variant stands out as highly recommended, striking a balance by incorporating all necessary features while providing good value for money. For those seeking the utmost in features, the Style variant represents a top-tier choice, offering a comprehensive upgrade. Additionally, the brand offers Monte Carlo, Black, and Matte editions across different variants for those aiming to stand out on the road; however, these editions come at a premium over the regular variants, making them relatively expensive choices.

Pros & Cons of Skoda Kushaq

  • Features we admire in this car

    • Simple yet stylish exterior design with signature Skoda design language
    • Powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with 148 bhp of power and an option of smooth DSG transmission
    • The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is sporty with an engaging 6-speed MT & a smooth AT gearbox
    • The interior is simple and practical with good storage space
    • The cabin offers good ergonomics, comfortable seats, ample legroom
    • The feature offering is good which includes an electric sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, and a big touchscreen infotainment, among others
    • A good number of safety features such as 6-airbags, ESC, brake disc wiping, and others
    • It boasts a 5-star GNCAP crash test safety rating
  • Features that could have been better

    • The interior width is not that good fitting 3 adults in the rear seat might be difficult
    • It misses on some features as compared to its rivals such as a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ADAS, USB charging ports
    • No diesel engine is available in the lineup
    • The DSG gearbox has reliability issues and it has faced breakdowns previously
    • The top-spec variants cost over Rs 20 lakh on-road which is quite expensive considering the feature offering
    • Turbo petrol engines are not much fuel-efficient
    • Skoda’s after-sales service is not that great as compared to rivals like Hyundai, KIA and Maruti Suzuki
    • The boot space is quite less as compared to other cars in the segment
  • Should I buy the Kushaq?

If you seek a well-built SUV, the Skoda Kushaq presents itself as a good choice. Boasting powerful turbo-petrol engine options and decent features, it balances functionality and style. With its good presence on the road and comfortable ride quality, it offers a satisfying driving experience. While its pricing is a bit on the higher end, its engines and overall performance are sure to meet your daily needs. However, if you prioritize long-distance driving, alternatives like the Hyundai Creta, KIA Seltos, with their diesel engine options, or the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, featuring a hybrid petrol engine, might better suit your preferences.

Sleek Design Paired with a Tough Look 8
    • At first glance, it's evident that the Skoda Kushaq shares design elements with its pricier counterparts like the Karoq and Kodiaq. Its front-end showcases the distinctive Skoda grille, complemented by sleek LED headlamps. The C-SUV exudes a premium yet rugged appearance, accentuated by details such as a brushed aluminum faux skid plate and a robust bumper.
    • Moving to the side profile, you'll notice the emphasis on crisp lines and taut surfaces. The standout feature here is the eye-catching 17-inch alloy wheels, drawing immediate attention. Additionally, there's ample chrome detailing to cater to the preferences of the Indian market.
    • At the rear, the design echoes cues from Skoda's higher-end SUVs, although it lacks the muscularity of the front end. Nevertheless, the Kushaq presents itself as an attractive C-SUV, seamlessly blending traditional Skoda styling elements with the compact SUV format.

One advantage the Creta holds is its range of engine options. While the Kushaq offers two turbo petrol engines, the Creta provides three options: a fuel-efficient naturally aspirated petrol engine, a more powerful turbo petrol engine generating 160 bhp, and a robust 1.5-litre diesel engine. In terms of features, the Creta outshines the Kushaq, boasting amenities like a large panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and more. Safety-wise, the Skoda Kushaq holds a commendable 5-star rating from GNCAP, whereas the Creta is yet to undergo testing.
