BS6 Mahindra XUV300 1.2L Petrol Mileage More Than ARAI - Video

In our recent fuel economy video, we took a challenge that can we beat the ARAI certified mileage? In this test run, our partner was the safest compact SUV in the Indian market right now, yes, the Mahindra XUV300 1.2L Petrol BS6 model and in this mileage run, we covered 191 km and it was purely city run with a few open stretches.

Before we go any further and bring you all the details related to the mileage of BS6 Mahindra XUV300 1.2L Petrol, make sure you are a member of our exclusive 91Wheels Telegram group where we bring all the latest updates related to the Indian Automotive Industry.

Let's know about the mechanicals first, it gets a 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine. This unit generates 109 bhp with 200 Nm of peak torque. The ARAI certified mileage of this car sticks to 17 kmpl for the petrol engine with 6-speed manual gearbox but we surely accepted the challenge to see if we could achieve higher fuel economy.

We followed the old school brim to brim method where even after the auto cut, we fill the tank. Our next step is to reset the average fuel economy which was 14.3 kmpl at that moment. Then we reset both the trip meters to 0 and followed the same process for the average speed.

After resetting all the figures, we set the AC to 22 degrees and finally started our drive. Another interesting thing which caught our attention that ours was brand new XUV300 which had only clocked 126 km. Do note that this engine comes with the mild-hybrid setup which eventually helps in saving the fuel

Our first report came at the 25.4 km mark where the fuel economy stood out to be an impressive 17.1 kmpl. Yes, 0.1 kmpl more than the ARAI. Also, we did this distance in 58 minutes which is normal considering the traffic jam in Delhi-NCR. You also see a Mahindra Eco score which judges you on a scale from 0-100. This display pretty much sums about the driving pattern of the driver and we achieved 97/100 in the 25 km mark.

We reached the 102.1 km mark in two hours and seventeen minutes with an average speed of 44 kmph. Yes, we were fortunate enough to get the open wide roads which helped us a lot. What's surprising is that after the 102.1 km mark, we were getting 19.7 kmpl which is impressive considering the mix driving. One thing is for sure and that is, if you drive with a light right foot and select the appropriate gears then you will achieve maximum fuel economy.

Once we achieved the 150 km mark, there was a slight decrease in the average fuel economy and that came out to be 19.1 kmpl. Our average speed was 43 kmph with the average driving time of three hours and twenty-eight minutes.

We also went to Gurugram to give you a gist of the route we took. Our main focus was to cover 75-80% of the roads in traffic and the city while the rest on the open roads. This gave us a real-time fuel efficiency and also clocked some more kilometres.

So after driving for four hours and twenty-nine minutes with 191.9 km on the odometer, we ended our drive. Our average speed came out to be 42 kmph. According to the display we got 19 kmpl but we had to follow the brim to brim method to get the right figures.

Upon reaching the petrol pump, we ordered the attendant to fill it to the brim. As you can see in the video, 10.93 litres of fuel came in and we also dropped a little to show you the exact figures. So with 191.9 km on the odo and 10.93 litres of fuel consumed, we divided the total km by litres. The figure we achieved was an astonishing 17.55 kmpl which is quite interesting if you ask.

The ARAI mileage sticks to 17 kmpl and we achieved 17.55 kmpl. So yeah, we did beat the ARAI and that too driving mostly in the city routes. We achieved this with two people on board and AC running the whole time. So how do you like this video? Do let us know in the comment section below.
