Kia Carens Clavis EV: A Strictly 7 Seater!

While a few details regarding the aestehtics and distinctions from the regular ICE Carens were already known, the 7-seater layout of the Kia Carens Clavis EV makes it a lot more detailed for the buyers who were waiting for captain chairs to make it here as well. Visually, the Carens Clavis EV will retain the familiar silhouette of its ICE counterpart, the standard Carens, but with bespoke electric vehicle styling cues. Expect a distinct blanked-off grille, smartly integrating the charging port for seamless aesthetics and functionality. Aerodynamic alloy wheels, revised LED DRLs, and updated tail-lamps will further underscore its EV identity. A connected LED light bar is also anticipated at both the front and rear, adding a futuristic signature element to its road presence.

Inside, the cabin maintains the Carens' well-regarded layout, infused with EV-specific enhancements. Dual 12.3-inch connected screens will dominate the dashboard, providing a high-tech interface. A modern two-spoke steering wheel and a rotary gear selector will free up valuable console space, enhancing practicality. The interior will adopt a sophisticated black-and-white dual-tone theme, complemented by thoughtful additions like a retractable-lid storage compartment between the front seats.
Anticipated offerings include a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging for both front and rear occupants, a power-adjustable and ventilated driver's seat, and dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear AC vents. An auto-dimming IRVM is also expected to enhance driving comfort. On the safety front, the Carens EV is projected to come with six airbags as standard across the range. A 360-degree camera with blind spot monitoring, while a comprehensive Level-2 ADAS suite is expected to offer advanced functionalities such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, driver drowsiness detection, and autonomous emergency braking.

Battery And Range

Underpinning the Carens Clavis EV will be a 51.4 kWh battery pack, expected to deliver a claimed range of approximately 490 km. There are strong indications that Kia might also introduce a smaller 42 kWh battery option for lower variants, potentially offering a range of around 390-400 km, to make the electric MPV more accessible to a wider range of buyers. While specific details on the electric motor are still awaited, it is expected to feature a front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup, with power output likely to fall within the 135-170 PS range, balancing performance with efficiency for family commuting.
Verdict
The Carens Clavis EV will make Kia's electric MPV offering a lot more diverse and appealing for buyers with not just multiple powertrains on offer, but also with the creature comforts and the road presence that it offers. However, if the claims turn out to be true, some might find it a little off-putting that captain chairs are not available even as an option, which offers greater comfort especially when you are looking for cheauffeur driven packages
