Kia Carens Clavis EV

Kia Carens Clavis EV launch date is July 15th, and this car will be a one-of-a-kind as there is no electric MPV in India under Rs 20 lakh. Even if we stretch, the other and only option on sale is BYD eMax 7 - at starting price of Rs 26.90 lakh ex-showroom. From design perspective, it will be completely identical to Carens Clavis, but will carry EV specific design changes, such as aero-alloy wheels, and charging port at front. The battery specifications and power-output would be same as Hyundai Creta Electric, as Kia and Hyundai are closely related.

In a recent teaser, Kia revealed a range of 490 km, which is even higher than what the Creta Electric offers with its larger battery pack (473 km). The power and torque figures are expected to be the same, although Kia hasn't officially confirmed anything yet. However, to give you an number from Creta EV brochure, here's what we expect:
Battery Pack | 42 kWh | 51.4 kWh |
Max Power | 135 PS | 171 PS |
Range | 390 Km (Expected) | 490 Km (Revealed) |
AC Fast Charging | 4 hrs | 4 hrs 50 minutes |
DC Fast Charging | 58 minutes | 1 hr (Expected) |
These spy shots of the Carens Clavis EV don't reveal anything new but serve as a reminder that its launch is approaching. Additionally, it will boast features like Level 2 ADAS, a 12.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, electronic parking brake, panoramic sunroof, front seat ventilation, electrically adjustable driver seat, and a V2V-like feature.

Verdict
The Kia Carens Clavis EV will be the first mass-market electric vehicle offering from Kia India, arriving shortly after the launch of the Carens Clavis. Since the ICE version has already revealed much about the features and overall package, the only major difference will be the powertrain - which is the most crucial aspect of this EV. Lastly, it is expected to launch at a starting price of around Rs 17 lakh and could go up to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom).
