Kia Carens Teased Through Official Sketches Ahead of Dec-16 Debut

The aesthetics of Kia Carens are based on Opposites United design philosophy, while the fourth product from Kia Motor India will share aplenty with the hot-selling Seltos

Ahead of officially revealing its fourth offering for the local car market, Kia has released the official sketches for its upcoming offering. Dubbed Kia Carens, the new model will be positioned as an affordable MPV that is likely to sit lower than the Seltos and above the Sonet in the carmaker's product portfolio. The Carens will have a three-row layout and in the word of the carmaker, its exterior has been programmed keeping in mind the "evolved, unmet needs of modern Indian families who want to enjoy commuting together."

Kia Carens Exterior and Interior

The aesthetics of the Kia Carens are based on the carmaker's new design language 'Opposites United.' As per the carmaker, the bold look of the new model takes inspiration from the contrasting elements found in humanity and nature. Overall, the new design language is based on five key pillars - Power to Progress, Bold for Nature, Technology for Life, Joy for Reason and Tension for Serenity. Out of these, the 'Bold for Nature' theme has been picked for the design of the Carens.

The highlights of the exterior include the carmaker's signature Tigor Face front facade, bold grille, sleek LED headlamps and attractive Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs). Together, these elements lend the front-end of the MPV with a very bold look, while the side profile exhibits a muscular stance. Inside, the Kia Carens features a wraparound dasign for the dashboard, while the chrome garnish on the doors adds to the premium feel. Taking centre-stage on the dashboard is a Seltos-like 10.25-inch Audio Video Navigation Telematics (AVNT) unit.

Speaking on the design of the Kia Carens, Karim Habib, Senior Vice President and Head of Kia Design Center, said, The Kia Carens perfectly embodies our latest design philosophy, Opposites United, and it successfully combines sportiness with a sophisticated personality and style with unique aesthetics. The Kia Carens is a true reflection on what todays customers want from their three-row vehicles.

Kia Carens Specs

It is being said that the Kia Carens would be sold with 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel unit. Both the powerplants will be made available with manual and automatic transmission options. As we said, the market positioning of this vehicle is yet to be revealed but unlike the Alcazar, which goes on to lock horns with the likes of Tata Safari, the Kia Carens could rival MPVs like the Mahindra Marazzo and Maruti XL6 instead.
