KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kia celebrates inaugural EV Day
  • Unveils Production-spec EV5 SUV along with EV3 & EV4 concepts
  • Flagship Kia EV9 Indian launch sometime in 2024

During its inaugural global EV Day event held in Korea, Kia made a striking debut with three new models. Among these exciting additions is the production-ready Kia EV5 SUV, originally unveiled as a concept in China earlier this year whereas the innovative EV4 sedan and the compact EV3 SUV have been introduced as concepts.

Let's look at what these EVs from this rapidly growing carmaker has to offer.

Kia EV4 Concept Sedan

The striking EV4 sedan concept, positioned as a potential rival to Tesla's Model 3, boasts a uniquely bold and slant-back design. With its sharp, vertically oriented headlamps, a substantial front bumper with generous air intake, and carefully integrated contrasting black elements, the EV4 embodies a distinct and eye-catching look.

Notable design elements include its sharply angled nose and a roofline that tapers elegantly toward the rear, exuding a sporty aura. The car's defining feature is its prominent shoulder line, which commences at the rear door and smoothly integrates into the rear-wheel housing, culminating in vertically positioned tail lamps. The rear of the vehicle showcases a tall bumper and a spoiler with a central Kia emblem. Kia introduces a new feature, 'Mind Modes,' allowing for dynamic adjustments of ambient lighting and animated ventilation patterns. Drivers can switch to 'Perform' mode, which provides comprehensive performance data, or 'Serenity' mode, offering soothing digital graphics to foster a relaxed atmosphere.

Kia EV3 Concept: The Entry-Level SUV Prior To Kia EV5

The EV3 SUV is positioned as an entry-level, fully-electric SUV in Kia's international lineup. Despite its compact footprint, this two-row SUV draws design inspiration from its larger siblings, the EV9 and the EV5 SUV. It adopts Kia's CMF design theme, which stands for Colours, Material, and Finish.

With its boxy aesthetics, the EV3 features a blend of crisp cuts and subtle curves, including a sharply raked windscreen and a roofline that gently narrows towards the rear. Muscular wheel arches and robust alloy wheels complete the exterior profile. While, the visual appeal coincides with its bigger siblings,

The EV5 lineup offers three distinct variations: standard, long-range, and long-range AWD. The long-range version boasts an 88kWh battery paired with the same 160kW motor, offering an impressive range of around 720km per charge. The top-tier EV5 long-range AWD combines an 88kWh battery pack with a total output of 230kW, featuring a 160kW front-wheel motor and a 70kW rear-wheel motor, and a range expected to be approximately 650km.

Kia promises varying battery pack and range options for the EV5 SUV, catering to different markets. Additionally, a performance-oriented GT variant is in the pipeline and expected to join the lineup later. The EV5 SUV is also equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) featuring V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology and a range of other features, consistent with what is seen on the Kia EV9 and the EV6 models available in India.
