The Mahindra Thar 3-door is due for an update is 2026, but there are some other steps the car maker is already initiating. The Indian car maker has now re-jigged the lineup by discontinuing the convertible soft-top variants. Despite this, the prices of the Thar 3-door remain unchanged.

Mahindra Thar 3-door Convertible Soft Top Discontinued; Details
With the convertible soft-top variants getting discontinued, the Mahindra Thar 3-door is now available in a total of 11 variants down from 19. According to reports, this variant re-jig also means that the base AX trim will be available only in the rear-wheel drive trim, powered by the smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual only. The rest of the variants remain unchanged, with prices of the Thar 3-door ranging between Rs11.50 lakh to Rs 17.40 lakh (all prices ex-showroom.)
The Thar 3-door is due for a facelift sometime in 2026, alongside the XUV700. We can expect design changes similar to the Thar Roxx, featuring a six-stack grille, C-shaped DRL patterns in the headlights and tail lights, and redesigned bumpers among a few other things. On the inside, we can expect things like the steering wheel, centre console, and the instrument cluster to changed, and we can also expect some feature additions such as a sunroof. However, the mechanicals and powertrains are likely to remain unchanged.

Verdict
The Thar convertible soft-top is certainly a cool-looking vehicle, but it is largely impractical, given the kind of weather conditions we face across the year. It found a small niche of buyers who have stuck with it, but ultimately the hard-top has found a lot more takers.
