Maruti WagonR CNG Spied - 1.2L CNG Or An Updated 1.0L CNG Variant?

With the rising fuel prices, CNG cars are gaining popularity among buyers. Maruti Suzuki is well known for its S-CNG technology and recently, WagonR CNG was spied on Indian roads. Mind you, Maruti WagonR already comes with CNG as an option but we expect the spy shot to be of the more powerful, 1.2L version or the updated 1.0L CNG as we've seen in the Celerio.

Before we go any further and bring you information regarding the Maruti WagonR CNG, make sure you are a member of our 91Wheels Whatsapp and 91Wheels Telegram group. Here, we bring you the latest news from the Indian Automotive Industry and you also meet several auto enthusiasts.

Maruti WagonR 1.2L CNG or 1.0L CNG?

Mechanically, the 1.2L petrol engine in the WagonR churns out 82 bhp of power at 6000 RPM with a peak torque of 113 Nm at 4200 RPM. With the inclusion of CNG, we can expect a 10% drop in power and torque figures and that'll give us 71 bhp and 93 Nm in total. This is the same figure as found in the discontinued Dzire Tour CNG and is more powerful than the existing 1.0L CNG. A 5-speed manual transmission will be seen in the WagonR 1.2L CNG.

Unlike the 1.0L CNG version that is limited to the base variant, LXI, we expect that this bigger unit will be offered for mid-spec VXI and top-spec ZXI variants. Do expect the upcoming WagonR CNG to be a little more expensive than the existing model.

On the other hand, the smaller 1.0L CNG version of the WagonR produces 58 bhp of power with 78 Nm of maximum torque. With the recent launch of Tata Tiago CNG, the 1.0L falls short in the performance department. If launched, the 1.2L CNG variant of the WagonR will strike the right chord with Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Tata Tiago CNG.

Reports also suggest that Maruti might just upgrade the existing 1.0L CNG on the WagonR. Yes, the recently launched Celerio CNG also uses the same engine but with different power and peak torque output of 56 bhp and 82 Nm. The power figure is less but the torque here is increased by 4 Nm. The fuel economy of WagonR CNG is 32.52 km/kg while that of Celerio CNG is 35.60 km/kg. The updated WagonR CNG might just get increased torque and mileage figures.

Feature-wise, the WagonR is equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, manual AC, rake steering wheel, power-folding ORVMs, all-four power windows and many more. Safety features include rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, front seat belt warning, door ajar warning, high-speed alert system and more.
