The EQS was launched in September of 2024 with a 7-seat configuration that costs Rs 1.42 Cr. Now, taking feedback from customers, Mercedes has removed the third row of seats and launched its second variant, called the EQS 450, at Rs 1.28 Cr. This results in more boot space, less weight on the batteries, and better performance in terms of range. The automaker says that the EQS 450, after being fully charged, can go up to 820 km.

Talking about the battery specifications, everything is the same. It also gets a 122 kWh battery pack, but with a detuned setting, as this car produces 360 PS of power and 800 Nm of torque. In comparison, the EQS 580 7-seater produces 543 PS and 858 Nm. Additionally, with a 200 kW DC fast charger, it takes only 31 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%.

Now, other changes that separate it from the bigger variant are the Electric Art Line styling. To make it easy to understand, the EQS 580 comes with an AMG Line, which brings a whole different styling characteristic. So, the 21-inch wheels are redesigned, plus the front bumper design is also more sedate.

Verdict

Mercedes-Benz India has the largest portfolio of cars in India, even bigger than Maruti Suzuki's. With more than 25 models, the brand is rising at high speed, performing better than several mass-market car makers. Last year, the company sold around 20,000 cars in the country in total, and its market share increased by 12.5% in India. Today, they have added two more models and are planning to launch another four cars in FY25. This showcases their enthusiasm towards the Indian market and speaks to their dominance in the segment.
