Design: Familiar Shape, Fresh Identity

On the surface, the Kwid EV holds onto the same silhouette as its petrol sibling, but there's enough visual distinction to make it stand out. The India-bound version is expected to take cues from the Dacia Spring EV, its European counterpart, which itself borrows styling elements from newer Renault models like the latest-gen Duster. Expect features such as Y-shaped LED DRLs, a full-width LED light bar, a muscular bumper, and bold cladding around the wheel arches and lower body. The alloy wheels spotted on test vehicles also hint at a rugged yet urban aesthetic.

While the interior hasn't been spotted yet, it's expected that Renault will kit out the Kwid EV with several premium features to stay competitive in the segment. Likely equipment includes a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and multiple USB ports. In global markets, the Dacia Spring also offers features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which may or may not make it to the Indian variant. Safety-wise, European versions offer up to 6 airbags, ESC, hill start assist, and emergency call functionality. Some ADAS features like lane keeping assist and autonomous emergency braking are also offered globally, though these may be trimmed for cost reasons in India.
Electric Powertrain: What It Could Pack

While official specs for the India-spec Kwid EV are yet to be revealed, its expected to borrow its powertrain from the Dacia Spring EV. Globally, the Spring is available in two configurations: a 33 kW (44 hp) motor and a 48 kW (65 hp) version, both producing 125 Nm of torque. Power comes from a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that delivers a WLTP-rated range of around 225 km. Charging takes roughly 11-13 hours via a standard home socket, while a 30 kW DC fast charger can juice the battery from 20% to 80% in about 45 minutes.

Renault Kwid EV: Expected Price and Rivals
Renault is likely to position the Kwid EV as a budget-friendly electric city car, much like its global sibling. If priced aggressively, it could start around Rs. 7 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it squarely against other entry-level EVs like the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, and Citroen eC3. With the right pricing and features, the Kwid EV could emerge as one of the most accessible electric options for Indian families.
Verdict
The Renault Kwid EV is shaping up to be a strong contender in the affordable EV space. With familiar design cues, smart packaging, and a focus on urban practicality, it's likely to appeal to a wide base of Indian car buyers looking to transition to electric without breaking the bank. While final specs and pricing will determine how well it stacks up against rivals, its European track record and Renault's growing focus on electrification make the Kwid EV one to watch closely.
