Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSI DSG to Gain Vital Safety Features

Skoda Auto recently launched its midsize SUV, Kushaq in India. On the other hand, Volkswagen is all set to launch its sibling, Taigun very soon. Both the SUVs are available in 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engine variants. Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSI is available in just the top-spec Style trim, which comes with six airbags for the manual transmission model but only dual front airbags for the automatic version.

Now, however, it looks like Skoda is about to update the safety equipment list of the flagship variant. The top-end Style will now be offered with an update in its safety features. It will now offer a pack of six airbags instead of two and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) on both the transmission variants. To keep its car pocket-friendly, Skoda has so far not offered six airbags with top-of-the-line trim.

Skoda Kushaq 1.5 TSI Style automatic is currently priced at Rs 17.59 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India) while the manual version is priced at Rs 16.20 lakh (ex-showroom, pan India). However, with the additional safety kit, the top-spec auto variant could cost up to Rs 30,000 more.

It must be noted here that Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun are the first products of the VW Group's India 2.0 strategy. Both the SUVs are built on VW's MQB-AO-IN platform are available with two TSI petrol engine options. The less powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 115 PS of maximum power and 178 Nm of peak torque. It is available with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission and a 6-speed manual option.

On the other hand, the 1.5-litre TSI EVO powertrain delivers 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It comes with two transmission options- a 7-speed DSG automatic and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
