Volkswagen and Skoda have finally launched their first-ever products under the India 2.0 strategy. The VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq have been off to a pretty good start - The former bagged more than 12,000 bookings till the day of its launch while the latter has garnered 10,000 bookings since launch.
VW and Skoda have made one of the largest investments in the Indian automotive industry to develop these SUVs for our market. Taigun and Kushaq are built on the same MQB-A0-IN platform and are available with the same engine options. The astonishing fact is that both the cars even start at the same price. From the table, it is crystal clear that the carmakers have played a smart strategy with the launch of their new SUVs. The entry-level manual models of Taigun and Kushaq are priced exactly the same whereas the difference in prices can be spotted from the Mid 1.0 TSI Automatic Models. Both the SUVs come equipped with almost the same features and technology.
Major differences in prices can be spotted in the top-of-the-line 1.0 TSI Petrol Automatic variants. VW has kept the price for its 1.0 automatic variant for Rs 15.91 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). On the other hand Skoda Kushaq asks for a premium of Rs 16.209 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) which makes it Rs 29,000 more expensive than the Taigun.
On comparing the prices of both the SUVs, the 1.5 TSI Manual and automatic variants of VW Taigun are also cheaper than Kushaq. Taigun asks for Rs 15 lakhs for its manual transmission whereas Kushaq is priced at Rs 16.20 lakhs (ex-showroom). Now Skoda has twisted its game here, Kushaqs top-of-the-line 1.0 TSI and 1.5 Manual are available at the same price whereas in Taigun there is a Rs 91,000 difference in both the variants.
If you are looking for an affordable convenient car under this budget range, VW Taigun would preferably be a better option. On comparing the prices of both the top-of-the-line variant that is 1.5 TSI DSG have a difference of Rs 50,000. VW Taigun is priced at Rs 17.50 lakhs and Skoda Kushaq is priced at Rs 18 lakhs (all prices mentioned above are in ex-showroom, Delhi).
Both the SUVs carry a full pack of LED headlamps and tail lights. VW has introduced a virtual cockpit with its Taigun in its top-of-the-line variant and along with that, it has also brought in a concept of infinity tail light as standard available with all variants. Even the alloy-wheels size of Taigun and Kushaq is 17-inch but different in design.
The mid variant 1.0 TSI Manual of Skoda Kushaq carries some features which differentiate it from Taigun. It comes with LED headlights and cruise control which is not available with VW Taigun. The Kushaq 1.0 TSI Manual is priced at Rs 14.60 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) whereas Taigun is also similarly priced at Rs 14.57 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun come equipped with the latest safety features. A few of them that come as standard with the car are adjustable headrests, ISOFIX Child Mounts, ASR, EBD, ABS, TCS, brake disc wiping, electronic differential lock and more.
Looking at the features, design, performance and structure. Both the cars are built on the same platforms and are also available at the same price, which does not mean that the cars will have the same in-cabin experience. Kushaq and Taigun are absolutely two different SUVs with different looks, interiors and performance.
