Skoda Slavia, Next Model in VW India 2.0 Strategy, Close To Its Debut
After the introduction of the Kushaq, Skoda Auto India is not close to unveiling the next model for the ever-expanding local car market. Dubbed Skoda Slavia, the new model will compete in the C2-segment and will go on to rival the likes of Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. The carmaker asserts that the new model would offer 'generous amounts of space' while the safety kit will include up to six airbags and many driver assistance systems on the higher models. The Slavia will be sold in two engine variants. Also Read- Skoda Kushaq 1.5 Style AT To Launch In November - Gets 6 Airbags!

Nomenclature History

The brand 'Slavia' pays homage to the Czech carmaker's rich heritage. The name of the upcoming Rapid-replacement celebrates the inception of Laurin & Klement in Mlad᠂oleslav. Hardly a year after the company was formed in 1896, Vᣬav Laurin and Vᣬav Klemen launched their first-ever bicycle that was called 'Slavia'. The brand name has now been resurrected for the carmaker's latest sedan that is all set to be positioned below the Octavia and close to the Kushaq. skoda slavia rear three quarters images

Skoda Slavia Dimensions

The Skoda Slavia measures 4,541 mm in length, 1,752 mm in width and has a height of 1,487 mm. Its wheelbase of 2,651 mm is more than 50 mm longer than that of the Honda City. While the compact exterior dimensions would help it easily find its way through crowded city streets, the best-in-segment wheelbase should translate into a spacious cabin for passengers in both rows. Skoda Slavia Specifications

Based on the same MQB-A0-IN architecture as the Kushaq, the Slavia will even share the engine options with C-SUV. Therefore, the entry-level variants will be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine that develops 115 PS of maximum power. On the other hand, the bigger 1.5-litre TSI EVO turbocharged petrol option will deliver 150 PS. The bigger motor will offer active cylinder technology (ACT) that shuts down two cylinders when the engine load is low, thereby enhancing fuel efficiency. Both the motors will come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard while a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission is optional for the 1.0-litre TSI. The 1.5-litre TSI can also be paired with a 7-speed DSG. The new sedan will offer many passive and active safety features - The top-end models will offer up to 6 airbags - 1 each for the driver and front passenger, as well as front side airbags and head curtain airbags. Speaking on the new model, Thomas Sch䦥r, CEO, `koda Auto, said: Following the successful launch of our compact SUV, the KUSHAQ, we are now upping the ante with this latest model, the  SKODA SLAVIA. I feel confident this mid-size premium sedan will appeal to new customers in India. We are taking the next step towards achieving our ambitious goal of developing SKODA AUTO into the leading European car manufacturer in India.
