Tata Motors has been testing the Nexon facelift on Indian roads for some time now. Many such test mules of Nexon facelift have been spotted. Also, a number of spy images of these test vehicles are already out on the internet. In fact, recently, some interior spy images of the Nexon facelift surfaced on the internet revealing a few interesting details about the transmission of the upcoming Nexon facelift. Tata Motors already offers a DCA transmission in its premium hatchback Altroz. According to Tata, the DCA gearbox is developed in-house by the brand and it can also be integrated with other Tata cars. Tata Nexon Facelift Transmission: A DCA/DCT Gearbox?
The recent interior spy image of the Nexon facelift shows a small gear lever in the center console area. The gear lever looks like the one we see on premium & luxury cars. It seems like a shift-by-wire type gear lever. Moreover, there's a 'P' mentioned just below the gear lever. Most probably it is the parking mode button. This means that the transmission is definitely a DCT/DCA unit and not an AMT unit. The AMT transmissions like the one in the ongoing Nexon model, do not have 'P' or parking mode.
As Tata Motors already has an in-house developed DCT/DCA transmission, it should be relatively easy for the brand to integrate the advanced DCA gearbox into the Nexon facelift. Moreover, in one of the interior spy images of the Nexon facelift, the paddle shifters are also visible. This confirms that the Nexon facelift will not be coming with the same AMT automatic transmission. And that means an even bigger possibility of DCT/DCA transmission in the Nexon facelift.
