Toyota Recalls Over 9,000 Units Of Urban Cruiser Over Faulty Airbag

In a recent update, over 9,000 units of the Toyota Urban Cruiser have been recalled which are manufactured between July 28, 2021, to February 11, 2021, due to the faulty airbag issue. The compact SUV shares a similar design and mechanical figures as that of Maruti Brezza.

This recall is called in immediately after the manufacturers found out that there may be a possible issue with the drive-side airbag assembly. The buyers who have brought the SUV will be called in via dealerships and the part will be replaced free of cost. Still, the precious time of the buyers will be wasted as this issue should not have been there since day 1.

Sharing the same platform as the Maruti Brezza, we did not see a faulty airbag issue with the Brezza, however, we have witnessed it in the Urban Cruiser. This shows how sometimes the carmakers take the Indian consumers for granted.

Safety features on the Urban Cruiser include dual airbags as standard across all variants, 4-star Global NCAP crash rating, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera, the anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, high=speed alert system, ISOFIX mount child seats and hill hold control for the automatic variants.

Feature-wise, it gets a larger touchscreen infotainment system with modern connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets automatic climate control, cruise control, anti-glare mirrors, multi-function steering wheel, push-button start, cooled glove box, LED projector headlights and others.

Toyota Urban Cruiser is priced from Rs 8.50 lakh and the top model fetches till Rs 11.55 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The SUV competes with Maruti Brezza, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and Mahindra XUV300.
