All-New Kia Clavis Launch On May 8- New Moniker For The Updated Carens

Kia India has officially teased its upcoming premium MPV, the Kia Clavis, set to debut on May 8, 2025. Rather than just being a Kia Carens facelift, the Clavis will be a more upmarket and feature-loaded sibling to the Carens, which will continue to be sold alongside it. Visually, the Clavis will sport radically different styling elements than the current Kia Carens, where the front headlamp details have been revealed in the teaser. The recent teaser hints at advanced features like ADAS and a triple-pod LED headlamp setup with wraparound DRLs. Not just this, it will sport new alloy wheels and a more upright stance than the regular MPV, something on the lines of the Kia Syros.
Interior And Features

Kia hasn't revealed the cabin of the upcoming Clavis, but teasers confirm it will feature ADAS 2.0, likely with advanced safety tech like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and collision avoidance systems. Expected highlights include a dual 10.25-inch screen layout, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, new alloy wheels, a premium Bose sound system, and a 360-degree camera. Other probable additions include a panoramic sunroof, which can be seen in the teaser video, wireless charging, and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, positioning it as a feature-rich upgrade over the standard Carens. The interiors are also going to be a notch above the regular Carens.

Engine Details
The Kia Clavis is expected to retain its familiar engine lineup from the Kia Carens. First up, there is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine that generates 113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Additionally, it features a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that delivers 158 bhp and 253 Nm of torque, available with a 6-speed iMT transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Furthermore, a 1.5-litre diesel engine is also available, producing 115 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, which can be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

As for the pricing, it is likely to be placed around Rs 11.5 lakhs ex-showroom starting price and will serve as a premium alternative to the Kia Carens while taking on the likes of Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, and others.
Verdict
Kia Clavis is for Kia Carens what the Syros is for the Sonet, which is a premium offering at a higher price point, justifying the higher price point with its heightened level of comfort and convenience, and focusing more on the in-cabin experience. If I look at the Syros that is picking up pace and slowly canibalising the sales of Sonet and even the Seltos to some point, the Clavis is up for the same as well. Can it translate into the replacement of the Carens at some point in the future? The brand says now, for now and both models will co-exist, but only the future holds the answer to it if it can be a possibility.
