One of the key updates with the new motorcycle lies with its engine. TVS says that the 165 RP is inspired by the TVS Racing Group C GP 165R racing machine. As per that model, it gets a first-of-its-kind 164.9 cc engine that features a 35% higher flow intake port, and 15% bigger valves. It also gets a revised bore-stroke ratio of 1.37, aided by a Dome piston, along with race-tuned fuel injection. Furthermore, the engine gets HLHD cam or Hi-Lift Hi-Duration cams, with dial spring valve actuators, another feature commonly used in racing bikes.

Combined with all the updated equipment, the power output of the new engine is rated at 19.2 Ps and 14.2 Nm of torque. Other mechanical updates include a race-tuned slipper clutch, along with adjustable brakes and clutch-lever functionality.

Aesthetic-wise, the revised graphics of the RTR 165 RP motorcycle will remind you of the TVS Apache RR 310 BTO series. The single-seat design gets a dual-tone red and black racy colour, and an aggressive tank cowl. The tank features a limited edition dual-tonne blue and white design with "15 Years" inscribed in the middle, along with the motorcycle serial number.

The 165 RP sits on the same double-cradle synchro-stiff chassis, also found in the 160 4V. The frame suspends on telescopic forks at the front, and stiffer SHOWA mono-shock suspensions at the rear. However, the RTR 165 RP gets bigger 240 mm rear disc brakes compared to the 160 4V.  Red alloy wheels on both front and rear are covered in sticky Eurogrip PotorQ racing spec radial tires.
