Tata Curvv EV vs MG Windsor EV: Which EV Makes More Sense?

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Curvv EV offers more range (502 km certified), Windsor offers more battery choices (38 kWh & 52.9 kWh).
  • Windsor's 2,700 mm wheelbase makes it the clear winner for rear-seat comfort.
  • Both get Level 2 ADAS, lifetime battery warranty, and V2L/V2V charging.
  • Windsor's 15.6-inch screen is the largest in segment; Curvv counters with a JBL 9-speaker setup and frunk.
  • MG's BaaS model lowers the entry price - a smart option for budget-conscious first-time EV buyers.

So you've decided to bring home your first EV, and the SUV segment has caught your eye - smart choice. The Tata Curvv EV and MG Windsor are two of the most interesting options on sale right now, both offering generous space, packed features, and multiple battery pack options to suit different budgets.

The Windsor has already made its mark, sitting at the top of the monthly sales charts for months running. But the Curvv EV is no pushover - it ticks enough boxes to make this a genuinely tough call. Price

Let's begin with the price and the number of variants each car is offered, as this factor decides and the whole reason of buying a car is standing on it. First let's talk about Tata Curvv EV:-

Tata Curvv EV

  • Accomplished X 55 - Rs 16.99 lakh
  • Empowered X 55 - Rs 19.19 lakh
  • Empowered X 55 #DARK - Rs 19.49 lakh

MG Windsor EV

  • Excite - Rs 14.09 lakh
  • Exclusive - Rs 15.52 lakh
  • Essence - Rs 16.52 lakh
  • Exclusive Pro - Rs 17.37 lakh
  • Essence Pro - Rs 18.59 lakh

The first three variants are available only with the 38 kWh battery pack, while the last two come with the 52.9 kWh unit.

Battery Spec and Range

From 2026, the Tata Curvv EV is only available with a 55 kWh battery pack that puts out 167 hp and 215 Nm of toruqe, and the claimed range is 502 Km, and in real-world scenario - one can expect it around 400 to 410 km. Moreover, with a 70 KW DC fast charger it takes from 10-80% in 40 minutes.

The MG Windsor, on the other hand, offers two battery choices - a 38 kWh pack with 332 km range and a larger 52.9 kWh pack with 449 km range. The Windsor's larger pack charges from 20-80% in 50 minutes via DC. On paper, the Curvv EV wins on range, and the Windsor wins on flexibility by offering a more affordable entry point through the smaller battery.

The Windsor also has a unique Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model where you buy the car without the battery and pay Rs 3.9 - 4.5 per km instead - a genuinely clever option for buyers anxious about long-term battery costs.

Features

Both cars are well-loaded, but the approach is different. The Curvv EV top variant packs Level 2 ADAS with over 17 functions, a 12.3-inch Harman infotainment screen, JBL 9-speaker system, V2L and V2V charging, voice-assisted panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, India's first R-Comfort seats with passive ventilation, a frunk, and OTA updates. Tata also offers a lifetime HV battery warranty, which is a massive confidence booster for first-time EV buyers.

The Windsor Pro matches it with Level 2 ADAS (12 functions), a massive 15.6-inch GrandView touchscreen - the largest in segment - 9 Infinity speakers, V2L and V2V, 256-colour ambient lighting, powered tailgate, and MG's i-SMART connected car suite with 80+ voice commands in 6 Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati. That language support is genuinely useful for Indian buyers and something Tata doesn't match as closely.

Edge: roughly even - Curvv wins on build quality perception and warranty peace of mind; Windsor wins on screen size and connectivity depth.

Windsor EV

Space & Comfort

This is where the Windsor pulls ahead clearly. It's built on a longer 2,700 mm wheelbase versus the Curvv EV's 2,560 mm - that's 140 mm more, and you feel every millimetre in the rear seat. The Windsor is explicitly positioned as a "business class" cabin with best-in-class rear legroom, 135-degree reclining rear seats, and a flat floor (thanks to no traditional transmission tunnel). Boot space is 604 litres on lower variants and 579 litres on higher trims.

The Curvv EV, being an SUV coupe, has a sloping roofline that slightly compromises rear headroom - a design trade-off. Boot space is 500 litres, and there's an additional 11.6-litre frunk. The cabin is well-appointed with ErgoWing headrests, Pure Comfort footrest, and ventilated seats, but the overall rear passenger experience is more cramped compared to the Windsor's lounge-like cabin.

Verdict

Choose the Curvv EV if you want better range, a more dynamic coupe design, stronger safety scores (5-star Bharat NCAP), and Tata's trusted after-sales network. Choose the Windsor if rear-seat comfort is a priority, you want a bigger screen, or the BaaS pricing model helps your budget. For a chauffeur-driven family, the Windsor is the obvious pick. For someone who drives themselves and wants the sharper-looking, longer-range car - the Curvv EV makes the stronger case.

Q1. Which car offers better real-world range - Curvv EV or Windsor? The Curvv EV edges ahead with an estimated real-world range of 400-425 km versus the Windsor's 380-400 km on the larger 52.9 kWh pack.

Q2. Is the MG Windsor's Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model worth it? If upfront cost is a concern, yes - you pay less for the car and only Rs 3.9/km for the battery, making it easier on the pocket initially.

Q3. Which car is better for rear-seat passengers? The Windsor wins hands down - its 2,700 mm wheelbase, flat floor, and 135-degree reclining rear seats make it the more comfortable choice for back-seat passengers.

Q4. Does the Tata Curvv EV's coupe roofline affect rear headroom? Slightly yes - the sloping roofline is a design trade-off that reduces rear headroom compared to a conventional SUV like the Windsor.

Q5. Which car has a better warranty on the battery? Both offer a lifetime HV battery warranty for the first owner - it's a tie on this front, and a big win for buyers of either car.
