Hyundai Discontinues Santro Petrol, Grand i10 Nios And Aura Diesel Unit

Hyundai has axed the petrol versions of their entry-level hatchback, Santro and not only that but they've also stopped the production of the Grand i10 Nios and Aura diesel motor. Furthermore, the dealers have been asked to take the bookings for specific models only if they have the stock available.

Several carmakers follow the technique of discontinuing variants and revising the portfolio when they see a lack of demand for the particular trims. Compared to the petrol motor of the Grand i10 Nios and Aura, the diesel was not doing that good.

Currently, only the 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol and 1.2L petrol with CNG are on the offer for the Grand i10 Nios and Aura. The turbo petrol pumps out 99 bhp of power with 172 Nm of peak torque whereas the 1.2L non-turbo makes 82 bhp of power with a maximum torque of 114 Nm.

The CNG version when paired with 1.2L petrol produces a peak power and torque of 68 bhp and 95 Nm respectively. All engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while the 1.2L NA petrol also gets a five-speed AMT as an option.

As for the Hyundai Santro, only the Sportz CNG version is available on the website while the rest of the variants are now axed out. The CNG unit paired with the 1.0L petrol motor generates 59 bhp of power with a peak torque of 85 Nm. It gets mated to a five-speed stick shift gearbox and the Santro CNG rivals Maruti Celerio CNG and Wagon R CNG.
