While the debut is on October 3, the specs of the Kia EV9 have been leaked before that. The Kia EV9 for the Indian market will feature a 99.8 kWh battery that powers dual motors, delivering 384 PS and 700 Nm of torque. This configuration offers an ARAI-rated range of 561 km. The EV9 also supports rapid charging, allowing it to go from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes with a 350 kW charger. Additionally, it includes Vehicle To Load (V2L) technology, enabling users to power small devices directly from the vehicles battery. The EV9 is based on the E-GMP platform that is also utilised with the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Also, The EV9 is equipped with an 800-volt charging system, allowing it to achieve a driving range of 239 km after just 15 minutes of charging. While the global model supports 230 kW DC fast charging, the version available here will likely come with an 11 kW portable AC charger, resulting in varying charging times based on the specific setup. Coming to the dimensions, it measures 5010mm in length, 1980mm in width, and 1755mm in height, and the wheelbase stands at 3100mm, which, as evident from the numbers, is a big size vehicle.

Interior And Features

The EV9's interior is undeniably futuristic, featuring a 12.3-inch combined display for both the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. It offers various seating arrangements and types. While global models include swivel captain seats that can rotate up to 180 degrees, it's unlikely that this option will be available locally. Instead, we can expect standard bench seats or ventilated captain's chairs with a massage function.

Key features of the EV9 include Level-2 ADAS, which offers advanced functionalities like blind-spot collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, intelligent speed limits, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, rear-cross traffic collision avoidance, and parking collision avoidance, among others. Additional amenities include over-the-air updates, a digital key, a Meridian audio system, a panoramic moonroof, and a lot more. Featurte-wise, it will

Kia EV9: Price And Rivals

Considering that it will be a CBU import, the price will dwindle in the premium range of around Rs. 90 lakhs to 1 crore ex-showroom. At such a steep sticker price and massive footprint, it will rival the other premium EVs like the Audi Q8 e-Tron, BMW iX, and others as a somewhat relatively affordable option.

Verdict

The EV wave is weathering off globally with buyers looking for hybrids as a potential solution to the ecological challenge. However, the Indian EV space is relatively nascent and Kia's strategic entry into the Indian EV market with the upcoming EV9 has significant potential to reshape the landscape. Much like the successful Kia Seltos, the EV9's impressive three-row design could establish new standards in electric SUV aesthetics, presenting consumers with an appealing option in this segment.
