Jeep Meridian Facelift: What Can We Expect?

The new Meridian is not going to be dramatically different than the outgoing car, but Jeep will focus on adding more tech and equipment to increase its value proposition. The Meridian facelift will be equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite, with over 70 features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and collision mitigation braking.

Another big development here is that it will come in both 5-seater and 7-seater versions, the former being for the first time. It will be interesting to see how Jeep positions the five-seater Meridian, given that the Compass already exists.

The Meridian already offers things like a 360-degree camera, multi-zone climate control, eight-way powered front seats, brake assist, hill start assist, vehicle hold, and a powered tailgate with customizable opening height among other things. The new Meridian will also add connected and remote features, such as Alexa home-to-car, remote start with A/C control, geo-fencing, SOS, and remote vehicle monitoring.

10.1-inch infotainment touch screen, the 10.2-inch digital cluster, and the 9-speaker Alpine sound system has also been retained.

While the overall design will remain the same, the Meridian facelift will feature a slightly tweaked grille, with chrome elements similar to what we have seen on the Meridian X. It will also receive new alloy rims as well. The front and rear bumpers, along with the tail lights could receive a slight redesign.

The 2.0-litre diesel powertrain is likely to remain unchanged, with 168bhp and 350Nm of torque, paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 9-speed automatic transmission. It will also retain the Selec-Terrain 4x4 system, along with the FSD suspension tech.

Verdict

The new Meridian will certainly make things interesting in the premium SUV segment, given that it is now also coming in a five-seater version as well. This is likely to make the Meridian even more affordable and also target the Tucson and the Tiguan, both of which are due for an upgrade.
