Kia Carens Clavis EV Spied Testing - New Details Observed

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Kia Carens Clavis EV spied.
  • Aero alloy wheels and charging port visible.
  • Most likely to feature Create Electric battery specs.

Kia Carens Clavis, the premium up-market MPV has finally launched at a starting price of Rs 11.50 lakh. Now, it's time to bring its electrified version, making it the first-ever Kia's electric MPV to launch in India. This iteration of Carens Clavis has been spied multiple times before, but these new spy shots reveal new details. So, let's take a closer look at it, in the meantime, make sure to join 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel to never miss out on automotive updates.

Kia Carens Clavis EV

Kia Carens Clavis EV, as seen in this spy shot, retains the same body style and signature ice cube LED headlights. Also, the camera and radar for the ADAS, plus the panoramic sunroof are visible. However, there are some EV-specific changes - the charging port at the centre of the grille area, and the new aero alloy wheels, similar to the ones seen on the Creta Electric. Moreover, we suspect that this EV will also feature active air flaps for battery cooling, and the ground clearance of the Carens Clavis EV will be higher than the regular one.

Hanging battery setup, just like Creta Electric

The different thing we noticed here is that this EV version has a radar module at the centre of the Kia digital tiger face, while the ICE version doesn't have anything like that, as the radar is hidden at the sides - not visible at all. Also, just like the Creta EV, its battery is hanging and if you observe closely from the side angle of it, you'll see the battery. This indicates two things - the Carens Clavis EV will have the same battery specification as the Creta Electric and the ground clearance of it will be approximately 10mm to 15mm higher, so the road doesn't scratch away the base.

That brings us to its battery pack - 42 kWh standard and 51.4 kWh for long range. The 42 kWh puts out 135 PS, and its range as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 is 390 km and the 52 kWh peak power is 171 PS with a med MIDC range of 473 km. Before getting too excited, know that these are Creta Electric numbers, so range figures can differ. To add more, Vehicle 2 Load, Vehicle 2 Vehicle, and electric tail-gate, like features could enter this upcoming car. At the moment, there is no information about its launch date, but we expect it to happen during October or November of this year.

Verdict

With this upcoming MPV, Kia will be joining the affordable EV bandwagon and that too with an MPV - which makes the Caren's Clavis the first 7-seater electric car under Rs 20 lakh. As of now, there is no official information about its expected launch date, but we expect it to happen around October or November. Also, the battery spec would be the same as the Creta EV, and it will get some more features added on the regular Clavis like - V2V, V2L, and electric tailgate. Let's see when Kia finally lifts the cover.
