Mahindra Bolero Neo Scores 1-Star Rating In Global NCAP: This Is What Mahindra Has To Say

In a recent Global NCAP crash test, the Mahindra Bolero Neo scored a disappointing 1-star rating, raising safety concerns. The SUV's unstable structure and footwell area compromised adult occupant protection, while weak chest and foot protection for the driver added to the issues. The absence of curtain airbags and reminder systems for all seatbelts further detracted from safety.

Child occupant protection wasn't much better, with a score of 12.71 points out of 49. Missing three-point seatbelts for all passengers, a lack of passenger airbag switches, and just one child restraint system (CRS) limited its score, despite showing acceptable performance in the dynamic impact test. Mahindra and Mahindra has now reacted to the outcome of the safety rating of the Bolero Neo. They have issued a statement saying, "The Bolero Neo is the trusted utility vehicle of choice in India, owing to its robust build, highly dependable nature, and its innate capability to handle a variety of usage conditions."

"Bolero Neo has always complied with safety regulations that have been introduced over time and continues to be fully compliant with the latest Indian safety standards. As we are constantly innovating and improving our vehicles to exceed safety regulations, we want to assure our customers and stakeholders that Mahindra has significantly enhanced safety features in all our recent launches." The carmaker also said that it remains committed to delivering vehicles that ensure the highest safety standards and satisfaction of buyers."

5-Star Global NCAP Rated Mahindra SUVs

The Bolero Neo scored a low rating due to its platform that is still the same as the now discontinues TUV300, However, this is all set to be upgraded soon with a new platform that would help it to score better in the tests. Meanwhile, Mahindra already has a few high safety rating SUVs in its modern portfolio. The Mahindra XUV700, Mahindra Scorpio-N, and the XUV300 are all awarded 5-star ratings from the Global NCAP. Not just this, the ever popular lifestyle vehicle, the Mahindra Thar is a 4-star rated SUV.

Verdict

Mahindra SUVs have been known for their strong build quality and high GNCAP ratings and so the results were surprising for a lot of people. However, using an older platform and the side facing third row were two of the contributers as well. However, looking at what the brand has been doing for quite sometime now, the Bolero Neo will be upgraded to a new platform that will score a higher rating in these tests.
