- Retains full LED lighting and a premium exterior design despite being the base trim
- Triple 12.3-inch screen setup offered as standard from the AX variant
Mahindra's shift from the XUV700 to the all-new XUV 7XO marks a significant step forward for the brand, not just in design and technology, but also in how generously equipped its base variant is. The AX trim sits at the bottom of the XUV 7XO lineup, yet it manages to retain much of the SUV's visual appeal, mechanical strength, and core features. For buyers looking to enter the XUV 7XO range without stretching budgets, the AX variant presents a compelling starting point. Mahindra XUV 7XO 'AX' Base Trim Exterior Design: Premium Look Without Obvious Cost-Cutting

The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX makes a strong first impression by retaining the same overall design language as higher trims. Up front, the SUV gets dual-pod LED projector headlamps along with LED daytime running lights, ensuring that the base variant doesn't look visually downgraded. The redesigned grille with subtle chrome detailing is also shared across the range, giving the AX a modern and wide stance.

Along the sides, Mahindra continues the premium theme with flush-fitting door handles, electrically adjustable ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, black roof rails and a shark-fin antenna. The only noticeable compromise is the use of 17-inch steel wheels with covers instead of alloy wheels, which is expected at this price point. At the rear, the AX variant looks identical to higher trims, thanks to the full LED tail-lamps with pixel-style lighting elements that add a contemporary touch.

In terms of colour choices, the AX variant is offered exclusively in monotone shades such as Everest White, Midnight Black, Stealth Black, Galaxy Grey, and Nebula Blue, while dual-tone options are reserved for higher variants.
Interior & Features: Triple Screens As Standard Steal The Spotlight

Inside the cabin, the XUV 7XO AX delivers one of its biggest surprises. Mahindra offers the triple-screen dashboard layout as standard, consisting of three 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and co-passenger screen. This immediately sets the base variant apart from most rivals in the segment. That said, Mahindra does differentiate the AX trim through material choices. The cabin features hard plastics and fabric upholstery, unlike the leatherette and soft-touch finishes available on higher trims. The steering wheel is a conventional multi-function unit carried over from the previous generation rather than the new two-spoke design. The interior theme leans towards darker shades, giving it a more functional feel compared to the lighter dual-tone cabins offered higher up.

Comfort hasn't been ignored entirely, as both the front and second rows get centre armrests. However, features such as a panoramic sunroof and rear window sunshades are absent, and the AX variant is offered only in a seven-seat configuration. Despite being the base variant, the XUV 7XO AX comes equipped with a well-rounded feature list aimed at daily usability. Along with the triple-screen setup, it offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push-button start, all four power windows, cruise control, and multiple drive modes. Manual air-conditioning is standard, while the driver benefits from a 6-way manual seat adjustment to help find a comfortable driving position.

The six-speaker audio system is adequate for most users, though audiophiles may miss the premium Harman Kardon setup reserved for higher trims. Features such as ventilated seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, BYOD rear entertainment, rear wiper with washer, and dual wireless chargers are also omitted, but these are trade-offs expected at this price point.
Powertrain Options: Same Strong Engines, Manual Only
Mahindra allows buyers of the AX variant to choose between both of its proven powertrains. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 200 PS and 380 Nm of torque, while the 2.2-litre diesel delivers 185 PS with torque figures going up to 450 Nm. Both engines are paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox in the AX trim without any option for an automatic gearbox.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX is priced at Rs 13.66 lakh for the petrol manual and Rs 14.96 lakh for the diesel manual (introductory ex-showroom, pan-India)
