Variant Recommendation
The TATA TIAGO EV is available in two battery packs with 5 variants on offer. So if you are planning for the medium-range version, then we recommend opting for XT medium-range is the most suitable choice. The medium range provides less range and the motor performance is quite dull. If you are upgrading to the long-range version, then according to us, you should upgrade to the XZ+ LUX (with 7.2 kWh fast charger). It is the right choice. It has all the nice-to-have features and great performance. Upgrading to the top variant is not a worthy upgrade and does provide a value-for-money option.

Pros & Cons of Tata Tiago EV
Should I buy the Tiago EV?
The TATA TIAGO EV is a great hatchback in the EV segment that provides good comfort, great features, and ample range. This EV helps to reduce the carbon footprint and is very affordable for commutes in the city. It is a value-for-money deal and if in case you want something more peppy to drive, an attention seeker, then MG COMET EV is worth a considerable product.
- The design language of the EV version of the TIAGO and the ICE version is quite similar to each other. The setup and the dimensions of the EV are the same but at the front, the differentiating factor is now it gets a closed grill with .EV badge. The chrome strip earlier is now replaced with a blue strip, indicating that it is an EV.
- Coming to the sides, the new aerodynamically designed 14” alloy wheels have dual-tone accents on them. The subtle use of a piano black strip on door handles maintains the premium character. The fenders get an .EV badge to indicate it is an EV.
- At the rear, the design is completely identical to the ICE version. The bumper gets black treatment for the number plate which makes a subtle combination with the all-blue theme. The boot space is decent enough and can store luggage which is a plus point over its rival.
- As we step inside the cabin of the Tiago EV, the layout of the dashboard, steering wheel, and buttons are identical. The dual-tone treatment of the dashboard gives an airy feeling.
- The dashboard gets an 8” infotainment screen from HARMAN. It has wired Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The competition provides wireless ones. The touch and feel of materials are decent but it could have been much better.
- The blue accents are used in the interiors to remind you that you are in an EV. The instrument cluster is similar to the Tigor EV and the light shade of the cabin makes it less claustrophobic.
- It has useful features, like cruise control and automatic climate control. It also has a cooled glovebox and a height-adjustable driver seat for a more comfortable posture.
- The Tiago EV comes in 2 versions: Medium Range and Long Range. The Medium Range offers sluggish performance, while the Long Range gives a more energetic one. Both models have SPORTS and CITY driving modes for extra performance. Talking about performance figures of the Medium Range, it produces 60 BHP of power with 110 Nm of peak torque. This motor is quite sluggish in performance and most customers opt for the Long Range version.
- The Long-range version provides a much better performance. It churns out 75 BHP with 115 Nm of peak torque. Driving this motor feels much more agile and peppy.
- Coming to regenerative braking, it has 3 modes on offer that help to do one-pedal drive in the city traffic. Mode 0 is the least powerful. In Mode 3, you need to apply brakes. The regenerative braking is strong. The car automatically stops and recharges the battery.
- Coming to the range anxiety, it has a claimed range of 315 km in the city. But out in real life, it would return about 200-250 km depending on the driving style and traffic conditions.
- The seating comfort of the Tiago EV is much better than its competition. The seats are wide enough and the leatherette upholstery is comfortable. It gets blue stitching on the white upholstery that reminds you of EV.
- The seat has great cushioning. The cabin is wide enough. Talking about rear seat space, it has ample leg room, knee room, and under-thigh support is decent for a comfortable ride experience. The cabin could have been wide enough to accommodate 3 passengers at the rear.
- Talking about the suspension setup, it has a softer tuning. It is tuned perfectly well to engulf all the bad roads and potholes smoothly to provide a comfortable ride experience to the passengers. Though hard bumps and some bounciness do filter in on triple-digit speeds.
- The steering wheel has a good feel and feedback on offer. It is lightweight and doesn’t feel vague and characterless at cruising speeds. It maintains its line and the grip levels from the tires are also great.
The Tiago has always been known to offer a very comfortable ride and this continues with the EV model too. Tata has tuned the suspension differently and this is essential to accommodate the extra weight of the battery pack. The Tiago EV will continue to offer excellent ride over broken roads and yet will be stable enough for triple digit speeds during highway runs. The steering is extremely light and this aids during city drives. In fact the same dimensions and excellent visibility make it a good urban tool as well. Brakes is something we have always appreciated on the Tiago and these will be handy during emergency braking situations. Overall, Tiago EV provides a good suspension for a car of this size.
Summary
Easy to drive, comfortable over various road conditions.
