Beyond just technical excellence, Tesla claims a global Supercharger uptime of 99.95%, setting high expectations for reliability.

Planned Supercharger Locations In India
To kick things off, Tesla will establish eight V4 Supercharger stations, four each in Mumbai and Delhi NCR:
- Mumbai: Lower Parel, Bandra Kurla Complex, Navi Mumbai, Thane
- Delhi NCR: Aerocity, Saket, Noida, Gurugram
Each location will feature four charging stalls initially. Alongside these, Tesla will also install multiple 'destination chargers' at hotels and shopping malls, aimed at slower overnight or mid-duration top-ups. Tesla also plans to expand this footprint along popular highways, emulating its global long-distance charging network. And to scale this rapidly, the company is actively seeking partners to host these chargers, details for which are available on Tesla Indias website.

How Much Would It Cost?

While exact Supercharging costs for India are yet to be disclosed, Tesla's global model offers affordable rates for its vehicle owners, while non-Tesla EVs can also use the stations, albeit at a higher pay-per-use rate or via an annual subscription (approx Rs. 12,500 overseas). Expect a similar dual pricing model here, too. To support the infrastructure, Tesla will also open service centres and delivery hubs in Mumbai and Delhi, with more to follow. All operations will follow a direct-to-consumer sales model, bypassing traditional dealership networks.
Verdict
Tesla's Supercharger rollout in India signals a major leap in EV ecosystem readiness. With world-class charging speeds, a dependable network, and a promise of scaling fast, the brand is addressing a key hesitation among premium EV buyers. However, India's diverse conditions, such as inconsistent grid reliability and limited EV awareness outside metros, pose a real challenge. Success will depend on how swiftly Tesla localizes service, educates users, and expands its charging footprint beyond Tier-1 cities. But as a first step, this is a bold and promising one.
