Toyota Avanza India Bound? Here Are Some Details

The third-generation Avanza debuted last year in Indonesia. This updated model will be launched in Thailand with just one engine option.

Toyota officially introduced the Avanza, for the South-East Asian market, that is slated for launch in Thailand, next month. The Japanese marquee had already unveiled the C-segment MPV in Indonesia, last year. And given that Toyota does not have any C-segment MPV in the country, is the Toyota Avanza India Bound? As of for now, the Avanza will be launched in Thailand, where it will lock horns directly against the Mitsubishi Xpander.

The Toyota Avanza for the Thailand market will be launched with just one engine and transmission option. It will be powered by a 1.3-liter Inline-4 cylinder engine that is mated to a CVT transmission unit. Power output is rated at 106 ho @ 6,000 rpm and 137 Nm of torque @ 4,200 RPM.  The India-bound model however will get the same 1.5 litre petrol that powers the Urban Cruiser. Both manual and automatic (torque converter) transmissions will be on avail.

The 2022 Avanza is built on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture Platform (DNGA) shared with the Perodua Ativa. This means that the Avanza now sits on a unibody chassis, instead of a semi-monocoque chassis. The drivetrain layout is now also more front wheel drive friendly with MacPhurson Struts and a rear torsion beam. Earlier, it used to have rear-wheel drive layout with a solid rear axle.

The change in architecture has also increased the dimension of MPV. The 2022 Avanza is now 205 mm longer with 4,395mm of length. It is 70 mm wider at 1,730 mm wide. Its height has also changed, and depending on the variant, the 2022 Avanza is either 30 mm shorter or 5 mm taller.  But the most important increase has to be its wheelbase, which now measures 2,750 mm long, 50 mm more than before.

Aside from the exterior, the interior of the Avanza now also looks quite posh. Some of the standout interior features are keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a nine-inch infotainment system, a Q1 wireless charger, 360-degree camera, and an electronic park assist.

Safety features has also been updated with the inclusion of 6 airbags and a stability control. Besides, the Avanza also comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver assist system, that give you autonomous braking system, lane-keep assist, pedal misapplication control and front departure alert.
