Read our Toyota Fortuner vs MG Gloster comparison as the new kid on the block aims to take on a car that has been an undisputed sales champion since ages.
So how do both the cars stack up against each other? Here is our comparison on the basis of the given parameters.
1. Powertrain options - The MG Glosters is sold as a diesel-only model in our market like most other full-size SUVs out there. It is powered by a 2.0-litre Biturbo unit that puts out a mind-numbing 218 BHP and 480 Nm of torque. However, this unit is sold only with the higher variants of the Gloster. The lower variants get a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel with 161 BHP and 375 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner not comes with one diesel and one petrol option. The petrol engine is a 2.7-litre unit that puts out 166 BHP and 245 Nm of torque and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic unit. The diesel engine is a 2.8-litre unit that puts out 204 BHP and a colossal 500 Nm torque that is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6 speed automatic
Both vehicles come in 4x2 and 4x4 configurations.

2. Dimensions - Here are the dimensions of the two cars at a glance.

| Vehicle | Toyota Fortuner | MG Gloster |
| Length (in mm) | 4795 | 4985 |
| Width (in mm) | 1855 | 1926 |
| Height (in mm) | 1835 | 1867 |
| Wheelbase (in mm) | 2745 | 2950 |
From the table given, it is clearly evident that the Gloster has the edge over the Fortuner in every aspect of dimensions. It is not only longer but is also wider and taller than the Fortuner. Not to mention, even the wheelbase is fairly longer than the Fortuner.
3. Interiors and space inside - The gargantuan dimensions of the Gloster mean that it beats the Fortuner even when it comes to space offered on the inside.
Both cars like the rest of the competition offer a very comfortable second row. However, it is the 3rd row of the Gloster that helps it gain some bragging rights over its Japanese rival.

Also apart from the space, the interior layout especially with respect to the centre console is better on the Gloster when viewed from a distance. The Fortuner's interior on the other hand looks a bit utilitarian but it is to be noted that Fortuner's interior looks a bit more long-lasting as compared to the Gloster.
4. Gadgets and Gizmos - Both the vehicles come with a fairly long list of standard equipment. However, unlike the Fortuner, the Gloster also gets advanced driver assist systems which include adaptive cruise control, parking assist etc. Also, the Gloster gets an 8-inch multi-information display which forms the centrepiece of the instrument cluster as well. The Fortuner is made to do with a smaller 4.2-inch unit. So in terms of tech, the Gloster is fairly ahead of the Fortuner

5. Pricing - The MG Gloster is priced between Rs 29.98 lakh and Rs 35.58 lakh while the Toyota Fortuner is priced between Rs 29.98 lakh and Rs 37.43 lakh. So while the prices for the least expensive variants are the same. The Fortuner range starts with the 2.7 Petrol MT while the base variant of the Gloster itself gets a diesel engine with an 8 speed automatic. So there is some difference but not a lot when it comes to pricing.
So what should you choose when it comes to Toyota Fortuner vs MG Gloster?
The Fortuner is meant for those people who want a car that is brawny and reliable at the same. The new looks definitely freshen up the Fortuner in the face of the upcoming competition. The Gloster is aimed at those who want something that is a little different and loaded to the brim when it comes to tech.
