Toyota Land Cruiser FJ Coming To India - Debuts At BIMS 2026

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ - the baby LC with retro design is coming to India around 2027-28, and this ladder-frame SUV will be priced at around Rs 30-35 lakh (ex-showroom), and positioned below the Fortuner as a lifestyle vehicle. The FJ made its debut at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2026, where several of its iterations were parked, giving us a closer look at this true off-roader. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ

The FJ in the nameplate stands for "Freedom & Joy", and it gives the freedom to owners to go-anywhere, without any fear of car breaking down, as this is a Toyota. From every angle, this shouts - off-roading, tall-stance, excellent approach and departure angle, cladding on edges, tail-gate mounted spare wheel, and chunky all terrain tyres. However, its small proportions does look uncanny, as one would expect it to be a large SUV, however it quite compact.

Measuring 4,575mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,960mm in height, with a 2580mm wheelbase. Despite its relatively smaller footprint compared to other Land Cruisers, it retains strong off-road credentials thanks to its ladder-frame underpinnings, high ground clearance, and a tight 5.5m turning radius. The design features a boxy, upright silhouette that prioritises practicality, with a two-row, five-seat layout focused on cargo space and usability.

Under the hood, the FJ is powered by a 2.7-litre petrol engine producing 163hp and 246Nm, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system. Built on a refined IMV platform, it promises durability, rigidity, and genuine off-road capability, including strong wheel articulation and improved handling stability.

India Bound?

This SUV is coming to India, and many auto experts are calling it a mini Fortuner, but it is altogether a different beast. Talking about its launch, there is no concrete news available, but as per some reports, it could take 14-20 months. So, early 2028 might be the timeline.

BIMS

At the Bangkok International Motor Show 2026, a total of five iterations of the Land Cruiser FJ were showcased, including a petrol - powered standard model, the Meridian Concept, and an accessories variant.

• Basic Version - This is the standard iteration without additional add-ons. It features LED lighting, retro-themed styling, and the iconic Toyota branding on the front grill. It is designed to offer an "old school" vibe while being adventure-ready with lower slots for off-road utility.
• Meridian Concept - Built for massive road trips, this version features chunky alloy wheels and graphics toward the rear. It includes an official snorkel and an ARB roof-mounted carrier to hold essential gear for long-distance travel.
• Explorer Nature Concept - Tailored for camping enthusiasts, this iteration is equipped with a proper roof-mounted tent from ARB that can accommodate two people. It is intended for those who want to camp in remote locations.
• Official Snorkel Version - While some features overlap with other concepts, this iteration specifically showcases the official snorkel add-on. This modification is designed to improve water wading capacity and ensure the engine sucks in cleaner air while driving in dusty conditions.
• Legendary Concept - This version focuses on a vintage aesthetic using an "OG" color scheme and old-school steel rims paired with Yokohama tires. It includes tasteful chrome add-ons, mud flaps held in place by straps like vintage cars, and double-angled outside mirrors for better visibility.
• Street Cruiser Concept - This final version is designed to carry a motorcycle, and a Triumph Scrambler 400x is mounted on the back, as seen in the video. It features a unique matte finish, blacked-out accents (door handles, mirrors, and upper body), and specialized alloy wheels with red brake calipers.
