- VW Tayron spied again
- VW 7-Seater premium SUV
- Will feature a 2.0L TSI paired with a 7-speed DSG and an AWD
Volkswagen Tayron has been spied once again in India - this time in God's own country, Kerala. The Tayron is a 7-seater SUV that, at first glance, looks quite similar to the second-generation Tiguan. However, its side profile hints at its larger proportions, stretching 4,721 mm in length. The latest spy shots don't reveal much more, but let's talk about the SUV in general below.

Volkswagen Tayron
Like Skoda has the Kodiaq, VW India will soon have the Tayron. Both SUVs share the same MQB EVO platform and engine - a 2.0L TSI petrol unit paired with an AWD system. This setup is similar to what we've seen in the Tiguan R-Line, and yes, the Tayron is essentially an extended version of it. Both the front and rear profiles look quite alike, with only subtle differences noticeable upon closer inspection.

The launch date for this SUV hasn't been announced yet, and it's hard to predict when it might arrive. However, it has been undergoing testing in India for the past 4-5 months, and this time, it was spotted in the state of Kerala, as seen in an Instagram reel.

Talking more about this vehicle, the Tayron has been tested in the Euro NCAP crash tests and has scored a perfect 5 stars. Additionally, it received 87% for adult occupant protection and 85% for child occupant protection. It also scored 83% for vulnerable road users and 85% in the safety assist category. Now, why is this information crucial for Indians? Because, like the Kodiaq, this car will be brought here via the CBU route - meaning it will be fully manufactured abroad and imported to India.

So, this means the car will be priced around Rs 45 - 48 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. This also means the Toyota Fortuner will soon have another competitor.

Verdict
The Skoda Kodiaq's sibling is still in the testing stage, and this time, two of them were spotted together. Moreover, this car will need to offer something different in terms of overall appeal to convince customers to choose it over its sibling. In my opinion, it should focus on being a fun-to-drive option, as the new Kodiaq feels less engaging compared to the previous generation. That could be the Tayron's key differentiator.
