2020 Auto Expo is just a month away and Mahindra will have an array of new-generation models on showcase. This includes the all-new XUV500, the model we talk about here.
We have seen ample spy shots of the upcoming 2020 Mahindra XUV 500 but all were covered in heavy camouflage. This rendering from Cartoq gives certain design clues and also clears the whole silhouette of the car. This generation will have a wider typical Mahindra grille upfront with comparatively smaller headlights and vertically placed LED DRLs like the XUV 300. The Side profile will get flush-fitted door handles which means old cheetah claw door handles aren't making their way in this gen and it will also receive new alloy wheels. The window line will get a kink at the back like other Mahindra cars. The back profile will get longer and updated LED tail lamps with minor revisions to the bumper.

The interiors will be getting the major update with a new design and better quality materials. As we noticed from the spy shots, a new flat-bottom steering wheel has been added for the first time in any Mahindra. In the centre, a big rectangular area has been covered for large infotainment which is assumed to be over 9 inches in the top trims. Down below the screens are the AC vents which have been positioned horizontally unlike vertical orientation in the current model. The interiors will be clutter-free with fewer physical buttons used unlike the calculator-level buttons on the current model.
The next-gen XUV 500 will retain the 7 seat configuration but it will be missing some mechanical options. As per the latest news, the updated generation will miss out on an automatic option and AWD. Mahindra will be ditching the AT transmission and AWD which are available with the current model range. It will be powered by a 2.2-litre BS6 compliant diesel engine with 180 bhp and 400 Nm of torque paired with a sole 6-speed manual gearbox. To comply with BS6 norms, Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) will be added and these additions will take up the pricing of the Mahindra XUV 500.
Mahindra will be showcasing the XUV 500 at the 2020 Auto Expo with other Mahindra cars like 2020 Thar, 2020 Scorpio, Tuv 300 facelift and other models with minor facelifts. The pricing might go up thanks to the BS6 emission norms. Current gen XUV 500 range starts from 12.3 and goes till 18.62 lakhs ex-showroom.
