Maruti's foray into the sub 4m compact SUV market came in the form of the Vitara Brezza way back in March 2016. Ever since, this car has ruled the segment, selling anywhere between 10-15k units on a monthly basis. This has also made it hit the 5 lakh sales mark in just 47 months. So what makes the Maruti Brezza so popular?
Before we move further, let me add that the Brezza is offered with just one engine option. Its rivals, on the other hand, offer as many as three different powertrains. And yet, sales figures aren't in a mood to come down. Further, Maruti will be showcasing the updated 2020 Brezza at the Auto Expo next month. Let us quickly look at some of the reasons why this compact SUV remains a popular choice:
Value for money
The Maruti Brezza has a starting price of Rs 7.6 lakh (ex-showroom) which makes it among the most affordable diesel compact SUVs in India. Available in as many as nine different versions, there is a Brezza at various price points and this ends up making it cater to a wider audience. There have been massive discounts in the past few months which has further upped its value quotient.

Ease of driving
The Vitara Brezza, unlike some of the other options in the market, offers light controls and excellent visibility. This makes it easy and fuss-free to drive in city conditions. Infact, from the driver's seat, it feels more like a grown up hatchback and this goes down well with shorter drivers.
Reliable engine
The Vitara Brezza makes use of the tried and tested 1.3 DDiS motor. This engine has been powering other Maruti offerings for years now and is known for its long term reliability. The car does not require any major maintenance till a lakh kilometers. Further, the motor is extremely efficient, delivering an easy 15-17 kmpl in city runs and over 22-24 kmpl on highways. An optional AMT is offered with the VDi and ZDi trims.

Maruti's brand value
It goes without saying that Maruti's widespread network is an important factor for those staying in smaller towns. Availability of a service network, even in the remotest of places means owners have that extra peace of mind factor. Likewise, the Brezza retains one of the highest resale values in the segment.
The Brezza will undergo changes this year in the form of the facelift model that will also have a new engine to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. The current 1.3 diesel will be ditched for a 1.5 petrol unit. This is the same engine that also powers the Ciaz, Ertiga and the XL6. Expect a drop in prices as a petrol motor is cheaper to manufacture and the added features will ensure the Brezza remains at the top of the pack among the compact SUVs in India.
