Hyundai Venue: 1.5-diesel, 100 PS and 240 Nm
Price: Rs 8.09 - 11.39 lakhs
Hyundai has recently launched the Venue with a new 1.5-litre diesel engine which has been carried over from the Seltos but it lacks a VGT. The detuned 1.5-litre diesel produces 100 PS and 240 Nm of torque paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and the fuel economy is rated at 23.3 km/l. Price starts at Rs 8.09 and the top variant is priced at Rs 11.39 lakhs.
Ford Ecosport: 1.5-litre TDCi, 100 PS and 215 Nm
Price: Rs 8.54 - 11.67 lakhs
Ford Ecosport has been the best selling and most successful brand from of the American giant and it enjoys its cult following even today. Ford Ecosport gets a 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine which churns out 100 PS and 215 Nm of torque paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and the fuel economy is rated it 21.7 km/l. We love the motor for its smooth operation. Prices start at Rs 8.54 lakhs and the range-topping variant is priced at Rs 11.67 lakhs.
Tata Nexon: 1.5-litre diesel; 110 PS and 260 Nm
Price: Rs 8.45 - 12.70 lakhs
Tata Nexon has changed roads for the carmaker and has received loads of love from the market. One of the main USPs of the Nexon was fresh and distinctive looks with best-in-class safety, at least until the XUV300 arrived. The Nexon is power with a 1.5-litre diesel engine which churns out 110 PS and 260 Nm peak torque mated with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT. Tata claims a fuel economy of 22.4 km/l and prices start at Rs 8.45 lakhs and the top-spec automatic trim is priced at Rs 12.7 lakhs.
Mahindra XUV300: 1.5-litre diesel, 117 PS and 300 Nm
Price: Rs 8.69 - 12.69 lakhs
Mahindra XUV300 is the Safest car Global NCAP has ever tested under #SaferCarsForIndia initiative. Based on the Ssangyong Tivoli, the XUV300 has got some great underpinnings and engines. Both the 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel gives best-in-segment torque output. It is for sure that, at 300 Nm of torque, this car will entice you the most. The diesel engine churns out 117 PS and 300 Nm of torque paired with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT. The fuel efficiency is rated at 20 km/l and the prices start at Rs 8.69 lakhs whereas the top-end automatic trim is priced at Rs 12.69 lakhs.
Mahindra Bolero: 1.5-litre diesel, 75 Hp and 210 Nm
Price: Rs 7.98 - 8.99 lakhs
It would be a crime if we don't add this legendary SUV in our list. The Mahindra Bolero has a terrific fan following in rural parts of India thanks to its ruggedness and go-anywhere capabilities. The new BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine churns out 75 Hp and 210 Nm of torque but the main highlight is the low-end torque which helps you potter the car even with fully loaded up. Prices start at Rs 7.98 lakhs and the range goes to 8.99 lakhs. ABS and Airbags are now part of the safety package too.
