Renault Kwid EV

Renault's entry-level car is soon going to be available in an EV avatar, a piece of news that has been circulating since last year. As we know, it will be a rebadged version of the Dacia Spring, which is already on sale in the UK and has also been spied in India a few times. However, this time one of our community members spotted the EV on the road and captured it from all angles, revealing some interesting details

The front fascia is completely new, featuring a redesigned bumper and LED headlights. Above them sit stylish inverted Y-shaped LED DRLs, which look cool and give the car a funky vibe. At the center, you'll notice a scooped-up camouflaged section that appears to protrude outward. This is essentially the front charging port, cleverly concealed under the brand's logo. On the Dacia Spring, this element is clearly visible.

Moreover, the bonnet appears quite upright, giving it a stronger SUV-like stance that adds to its character. Moving to the side profile, cladding is clearly visible along with plastic wheel caps, indicating that this could be a mid-spec or even a base variant of the Kwid EV. Additionally, the ORVMs are finished in black instead of body color, and there's no sign of keyless entry - the traditional keyhole is visible. In certain areas where the camouflage has been removed, the silver body paint can also be seen.

On to the rear section, where we see the antenna, rear wiper, defoggers, and spoiler. Also, the bumper features the parking brake light and the continuing cladding.
Battery Specification

According to the Dacia website, the car comes with a 26.8 kWh battery pack paired with different motor options, offering either 45 hp or 65 hp. The claimed range is 225 km, while charging from 20% to 80% takes around 45 minutes. Expected features on the Kwid EV include a 10-inch infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver's display, a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, steering-mounted controls, rain-sensing wipers, and a dedicated Kwid EV app.

Verdict
As of now, there isn't any concrete information regarding its launch date. However, once introduced, there is a strong possibility that it will become India's most affordable EV, with prices expected to start around Rs 7 lakh (ex-showroom). Renault might also offer a Battery-as-a-Service plan, which could further bring down the upfront cost. This means the Comet EV will face tough competition. Moreover, since the Kwid hasn't been selling well and has lost much of its early charm, its EV avatar could potentially revive the brand's lost aura.
