Mahindra's aggressive SUV roadmap is beginning to materialise on Indian roads. After unveiling four forward-looking concepts at its Freedom NU event in August 2025, the brand has now started road testing one of them, the Mahindra Vision S. Expected to be the first NU IQ-based SUV to reach production, the Vision S is widely seen as a compact, lifestyle-focused off-roader that will slot below the Scorpio range, earning it the 'baby Scorpio' tag. Fresh spy shots now reveal the SUV's proportions, stance and several production-ready details. Mahindra Vision S Spied: Bold, Boxy Design

The latest test mule showcases a distinctly upright and squared-off silhouette, staying true to the Mahindra Vision S concept. Up front, the SUV features round headlamps paired with a vertically stacked slatted grille, giving it a rugged, almost retro-inspired face. The bonnet is flat and high-set, reinforcing its tough SUV character. LED lighting elements are expected to be integrated within the headlamp clusters, similar to Mahindra's newer lifestyle models. A radar module visible on the lower grille strongly hints at the inclusion of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The bumper appears simple but functional, with rectangular fog lamp housings partially visible beneath the camouflage.

Viewed from the side, the Vision S stands out with its generous ground clearance, aided by large wheels and chunky, high-profile tyres. The SUV is expected to use a more sophisticated suspension setup, reportedly including a multi-link rear independent suspension, which should balance off-road ability with on-road comfort. Design highlights include flat door panels, flush-fitting door handles and a straight roofline.

At the rear, the Vision S continues with a no-nonsense approach. Vertically stacked rectangular tail-lamps dominate the design, while the flat rear windscreen and clean bumper layout keep things minimal. A tailgate-mounted spare wheel further underlines the SUV's rugged positioning and reinforces its lifestyle appeal.
Cabin Preview: Modern Tech Meets Practicality
Earlier interior glimpses suggest that the production Vision S will closely follow the concept's futuristic cabin theme. Expected highlights include a dual-screen layout, likely twin 12.3-inch displays, and a large panoramic sunroof. The dashboard design appears clean yet modern, with physical controls retained for key functions and uniquely styled AC vents.

The SUV is also expected to feature a new dual-tone, three-spoke steering wheel along with a flat-floor layout, a notable first for a Mahindra ICE SUV. Comfort and convenience features could include dual-zone climate control on higher trims, soft-touch materials across the cabin, and a comprehensive set of terrain-focused electronics such as traction control, hill descent control, selectable drive modes and possibly a differential lock or off-road assist system.

Powertrain Expectations
Mahindra has not yet revealed official engine details for the Vision S. However, the SUV is expected to debut with internal combustion engine options, likely including a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, whereas a hybrid and fully electric derivatives could follow later in the lifecycle.
