Toyota Yaris has always been an underrated car in the C-sedan segment. Before we go further, this segment comprises of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento. Still, Toyota Yaris sales have been quite low even though it is the feature-rich car right from its base variant.
So continuing our news then Toyota has now launched a new base variant of the Yaris at Rs 9.12 lakh specifically for the Government e Marketplace (GeM). This one is based on the base variant 'J' but costs Rs 1.96 lesser than that.
Even though it is a base variant this Yaris comes with 15-inch alloy wheels with projector headlights at the front. It also gets ABS (anti-lock braking system) with EBD (electronic brake-force distribution) and 7 airbags. Yep, that's right, seven! The exterior shade is primarily based on the super white shade but other colours can be provided based on the request.

The interiors of the Toyota Yaris continues to give a premium feel by providing two-tone beige and black shade. It also gets manual AC controls along with rear seat armrests and also gets the high-speed alert system.
Under the hood, it packs in the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine which makes as much as 106 PS with a peak torque of 140 Nm. This one gets mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while the Yaris is also available with an optional CVT gearbox.

Commenting on the move, Mr. Naveen Soni, Senior Vice President, Sales and Services, TKM, said, Toyota Yaris is a preferred choice in the segment for its world-class safety, quality, durability and reliability features. The listing of Yaris on the GeM will now ensure that car buyers from central and state governments will have a wider choice in the sedan category. We are cognizant that several Government undertakings are moving towards procurement from the GeM in the post-COVID world and we want to ease their buying experience.
Also, the Covid Warrior special offer applicable on Yaris has received a good response and also given us an opportunity to thank the Government employees and doctors for their unwavering services towards containing the COVID pandemic. We are hopeful that this move will help us capitalize on the new B segment opportunity and increase interest from various Government departments and PSUs besides. Overall, we aim to cater to the demand on the Government side".
