VinFast VF7 Vs Mahindra XEV 9E Design

Both these electric SUVs follow a modern design language, but the XEV 9E is clearly larger here in every sense. However, the VF7 gets a longer wheelbase. The VF7 appears more like a grown-up VF6, featuring a familiar design language. It continues with the DRL strips running across the length of the bonnet, with the headlamps mounted lower below. The VF7 also gets a larger housing for the air vents below, along with a polished black surface for contrast.
The VF7 also looks familiar from the sides as well. However, unlike its smaller sibling, this car comes with flush-fitting door handles, and additionally it also gets black cladding lower down for protection. The 19-inch alloy rims get aero-inspired design treatment. It continues with similar twin strips connecting the tail lamps at the rear, with a uniquely-shaped tailgate and slim vertical tail lamps.

Meanwhile, the XEV 9E has influences of the XUV700 here and there, and the coupe-SUV silhouette is clearly being preferred by a lot of people, considering the number of XEV 9E's that have been populating the roads lately. Much like the VinFast, it also gets modern elements, such as full-length light strips, flush-fitting door-handles, and aero alloy rims. Neither of these cars look bad, but the XEV 9E will command more attention just due to its huge size, which will make the VF7 look ordinary in comparison.
VinFast VF7 Vs Mahindra XEV 9E Motor And Battery

Both cars here are available with two battery pack options, but the XEV 9E has an obvious advantage with more range on offer with its 79kWh battery pack. In terms of performance too, neither car is a slouch, with the XEV offering great performance numbers even with the smaller battery pack. However, the VinFast takes things a step further with the all-wheel drive trim, which puts out considerably higher numbers than the XEV 9E. Interestingly, the all-wheel drive version also comes with a faster 0-100kmph time than the XEV 9E.

The lower trims of the VinFast VF7 offer lower performance figures, which put it more in line with regular combustion SUVs. That said, a spec-sheet can only paint half a picture, and we can only talk about actual performance insights after driving both vehicles back to back. While we do know that the XEV 9E is more than capable of serious performance, something tells us not to write off the VF7 just yet. Here is a table for the number-crunchers.

Verdict
The XEV 9E and the VF7 are certainly two interesting rivals, and in some cases, the latter manages to trump the former in terms of its equipment, while the XEV pulls back some points with its size and funky interiors. The XEV also comes with more range in its larger battery pack trims, but the VinFast again claws back by ten years or 2,00,000km of battery warranty, along with free maintenance and free charging at VGreens charging stations till June 2028.
What remains to be seen is how the two compare to each other in terms of driving dynamics and real-life charging insights; something we will be doing soon enough.
