Toyota Fortuner is one of the most popular full-size SUVs currently on sale in India. The Fortuner enjoys cult status and fan-following like no other in our country. Toyota Fortuner was first launched in India in the year 2009. And, within a decade, it became synonymous with the rich and the powerful. The second-gen Fortuner made its way to our shores in 2016 and its sheer hulking presence won it plenty of admirers. The Fortuner is a 'True SUV' in real-sense and is very capable off-road. And now, Toyota has just unveiled the new 2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift in Thailand. So, what all has changed with the facelift and is it coming soon to India? That's what we are gonna answer in this article.

Starting off with the design, the new Toyota Fortuner Facelift does looks more striking than before. Upfront, it gets a new sharp-looking profile with revised bumpers and a new larger mesh-pattern grille. The revised front fascia also houses the new all-LED headlights with LED DRLs. The side profile doesn't get many changes but it runs on new 18-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Coming to the rear profile, it gets a new revised bumper and slim LED taillights. The facelifted Fortuner also gets new colour shades.

The 2021 Toyota Fortuner Facelift also gets a new top-of-the-line variant called 'Legender' which has a more sporty styling. The Legender variant gets a new unique split-grille set-up and more aggressive front bumper. It also features dual-projector LED headlights with stylish LED DRLs and sequential LED turn indicators. It also replaces the chrome accents and gets gloss black elements all over the body. The Fortuner Legender also gets dual-tone paint schemes and runs on stylish-looking 20-inch alloy wheels.

The interior of the new Fortuner doesn't get many changes but it does get some new features. The dashboard looks exactly the same as before and it still doesn't get an electric sunroof. However, it now gets a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is compatible with both Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. The Legender variant features a bigger 9.0-inch touchscreen unit. It also gets a 360-degree parking camera, ambient lighting, wireless charger and 9-speaker JBL audio system. The new Fortuner gets 'Toyota Safety Sense' which adds new safety features like collision prevention system, lane departure warning and radar-guided dynamic cruise control.

The new Fortuner also gets a significant upgrade in the engine department. While the 2.4-litre oil-burner still produces 150 PS and 400 Nm, the 2.8-litre diesel engine gets a major upgrade. The 2.8-litre diesel engine earlier used to produce 177 PS and 450 Nm but the updated model churns out 204 PS of power and a whopping 500 Nm of torque. That means 27 PS and 50 Nm more than the predecessor and this is now the only diesel engine that powers the India-spec Fortuner. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox and Toyota also claims that it will be 17 per cent more fuel-efficient now.

Lastly, talking about price and India availability, the new Toyota Fortuner Facelift is expected to make its way to India in early 2021. Toyota might drop some high-tech safety features in the India-spec model to price it aggressively. The Toyota Fortuner BS6 recently got a price hike in India. It is now priced between Rs. 28.66 lakhs - Rs. 34.43 lakhs, Ex-showroom. Toyota will also launch a special edition Fortuner in the Indian market very soon.
