Base AX Variant Of Mahindra Thar Spied With New Details; Launch Soon?

There is no doubt that the 2020 Mahindra Thar has tuned out to be a success for the Indian carmaker. Recently, the Global NCAP gave a rating of 4 stars to the Thar which is in fact an amazing response and the variant tested was the top-spec LX one. We also brought you the news that the base AX variant with 6 seats has been discontinued and now we bring you a spy video where the AX has been spotted with front-facing rear seats just like the AX(O) and LX of 2020 Mahindra Thar.

In this video, the base AX and the top-spec LX variant has been spotted. The major change is the front-facing rear seats making the AX variant now a 4-seater from the 6-seater. We believe Mahindra has taken this step as to give the base model a 4-star rating which could not be achieved has it the side seats.

Another detail which was found to be common in the spied base AX and the top-spec LX was the front grille. Yes, the majority of the people complained about how the factory fitted grille looked in black colour. The aftermarket grille was available at the dealer fitment but at an added cost.

However, as per this new video, Mahindra might bring in the body-coloured grille to the 2020 Thar right from the stock. Mahindra might charge for this or might not but we do know for sure that if the production of base AX variant resumes then the prices for the same will be increased.

Currently, some variants of the Mahindra Thar sees waiting period of up to 9 months and there is a huge demand for this affordable SUV. It is offered in two engine options - a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel and a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine. Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual and an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox.
