The Mahindra XEV 9S, the latest electric SUV from Mahindra, has been updated with a new Custom drive mode. This update addresses the undulated ride quality that some drivers experience in the Default, Everyday, and Range modes. The new Custom setting allows drivers to adjust the steering, suspension, climate control, and powertrain response according to their preferences. Let's understand the core issue and what changes this update brings to the driving experience. More details are provided below. This new Custom mode has been introduced to address an issue several auto journalists observed during the media drive of the electric SUV. They reported that its adaptive suspension felt too soft, resulting in constant vertical movement, which becomes more noticeable at higher speeds and affects driver confidence. However, in 'Race' mode, the suspension stiffens significantly and better complements the SUV's large body, delivering the composed and premium ride quality expected at this price point. With the addition of the new 'Custom' mode, drivers can now adjust the steering weight, suspension tuning, powertrain response, and even climate control according to their preferences, essentially giving them complete control over the driving experience.

It is important to note that this update is currently available only on the Pack Three variant of the XEV 9S, as it is the only trim equipped with adaptive suspension. The Pack One and Pack Two variants do not receive this feature.
The new Custom drive mode is now included as a factory fitment on the production-spec model, deliveries of which began on January 26. We will be sharing more details of it soon, once we get to drive and experience the change first-hand.

Verdict
The addition of the new 'Custom' drive mode is a meaningful update to the Mahindra XEV 9S, as it directly addresses one of the key concerns related to its overly soft suspension setup. By allowing drivers to fine-tune the suspension, steering, and powertrain response, Mahindra has made the SUV more adaptable to different driving preferences and conditions. This not only enhances driver confidence but also elevates the overall premium experience expected from a vehicle in this segment.
