Sales figures for FY25 are out, and when talking about the MPV segment, the Maruti Ertiga comes out on top of the food chain. Contesting against the biggies like the Innova twins, which takes up a close second spot, there are a lot of factors working in favour of the Maruti MPV, which I will be discussing in this section, everything that makes it popular. 1. Price To Value

Maruti Ertiga MPV starts at a price of Rs. 8.96 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 13.25 lakhs ex-showroom. The point is that for a big family that runs tight on budget, the Ertiga offers a very accessible price point of sub 9 lakh rupees for a 7 seater family car. And notably, even the base-spec model comes with features like hill hold assist, projector headlamps, asir cooled twin cup holders, AC, all power windows and then some more. Although it misses out on music system, but you can opt for the second base model and that too is pretty well priced. So, price to value ratio ticks the box!
2. Petrol & CNG On Offer

Another factor that works for the Ertiga is the fact that it comes with a petrol as well as a petrol+CNG option, making it a perfect choice for those who have an extensive run throughout the month, where the CNG models give a better fuel economy, more on the figures later. But do note that the although CNG tank takes up space, the MPV still leaves a respectable luggage room as well.
3. Fuel Economy

The Maruti Ertiga is powered by a 1.5-litre Smart Hybrid petrol engine delivering 103 PS and 136.8 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It offers a fuel efficiency of 20.51 kmpl with the manual and 20.30 kmpl with the automatic. For those looking to cut down on running costs, the CNG variant is a compelling option, offering 87.8 PS and 121.5 Nm of torque with a 60-litre tank, and delivering an impressive mileage of 26.11 km/kg, though it's available only with a manual gearbox.
4. Features On-Board

Maruti has equipped the Ertiga with a commendable set of features, even at its entry-level price point. Standard offerings include rear parking sensors, LED tail lamps, ESP, hill hold assist, and cooled cup holders. Climbing up the variant ladder adds more convenience and tech, such as paddle shifters, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control, rear wiper with defogger, connected car features, diamond-cut alloy wheels, and steering-mounted audio controls, making it a well-rounded package for budget-conscious buyers.

5. The Maruti Brand Name
Last of all, it is the brand name that works like a charm in a country like India, where almost everyone has had some kind of connection with the brand in the present or the past. The trust of affordable maintenance and availability of reasonably priced spare parts, along with a dense network of dealerships and service centres and makes it almost a no-brainer for many who want to take home a car that goes through regular service maintenance, and that's enough for most part of its lifespan.
Verdict
The Ertiga also gets its Toyota twin by the name of Rumion, but it is the Ertiga that still takes away all the spotlight. A no-nonsnese MPV that can accomodate big families, loads of luggage, easy on the pocket and light on the maintenance. Although it does offer just about decent engine performance, but the buyers don't really have that on their mind while going for this value for money package.
