It's been a little over a year since MG dropped the Hector in the Indian market and oh boy, the car has done exceptionally well. Okay, not well when compared with the Kia Seltos but those who buy it know what they are getting. Here, in this first look review of the MG Hector, we will be sharing all the details including the exteriors, interiors, engine options and everything about it.
Exteriors and new-age design

The styling of the Hector is unique in its own as it gets split headlight design at the front and loads of chrome on the body. Well, the shining chrome doesn't look that bad but brings out a character in the Hector. The front faux skid plate adds a bit of sportiness to this huge SUV.

Being in the mid-size SUV segment, the Hector is incredibly huge when compared with Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The side profile looks good but then the 17-inch wheel size with 215/60 dimension makes the size really small. We think 18-inch wheels could really fill up space. At the rear, the LED taillights continue with the large hatch like door.
Interiors

Let's start by giving you a tour what the rear seat looks like. MG Hector is a 5-seater SUV but provides you with a feeling that it can be a chauffeur-driven car. The cushioning on the seats is adequate and you do get sufficient amount of knee room in case three adults are planning to hijack the rear seats. The USP here is the sliding of rear seats so that you sit comfortably and relax in your commute.

The front part of the cabin gets a new-age design and gone are those buttons even for the AC controls. You have a huge 10.25-inch vertical touchscreen infotainment unit which lets you control almost anything present in the SUV. The leatherette can be found on the elbow rests, dashboard and on the top of the centre console. Nonetheless, the car feels premium but the new Hector Plus impresses us with its interiors.
Features

Being the connected SUV, it does comes with some unique and first-in-segment features. You get a huge panoramic sunroof, 360-degree parking camera, front and rear parking sensors, ambient lighting, tyre pressure monitoring system, heated wing mirrors, up to 31+ connected car features and among others. This SUV not only offers a comfortable ride with spacious interiors but also keep its passengers entertained in the process.

Engine Options
Under the hood, the Hector comes with three engine options - a 1.5L petrol, 1.5L petrol hybrid and a 2.0L FCA sourced diesel motor. The oil burner is the same as Jeep Compass and makes 170 bhp with 350 Nm of peak torque. A 6-speed manual is on the house and there is no automatic as of now. The 1.5L petrol motor is available which churns 141 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5L also gets a 48V mild-hybrid set up which makes the same power as above. This engine gets an auto start/stop and regenerative braking on the offer and gets a 6-speed manual gearbox only. This engine is better for someone who is looking for better fuel efficiency.
Prices and Competition

MG Hector starts from Rs 12.84 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.89 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. The mid-size SUV competes with Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
