Next-Gen Citroen C5 Aircross Spied: EV Variant On The Cards!

Set to make its global debut next year, the new C5 Aircross has been spied testing on international grounds, and will also introduce an electric variant. The current model offers several powertrain options, including a diesel engine that remains available in India as we write this section. However, it failed to attract the kind of attention that the brand would have liked to see. Nonetheless, the updated model is expected to counter the misses that it needs to address.

Although the test mule of the new C5 Aircross resembles its predecessor at first glance, it hides significant updates under its familiar exterior. Notably, a large battery pack is prominently visible beneath the vehicle, situated between the axles. Additionally, this prototype lacks the exhaust pipe found on the current C5 Aircross model, signaling its electric future. This early testing phase is focused on the vehicle's new STLA Medium platform, developed by Stellantis. This versatile platform will also support other upcoming electric from the brand.

While the final design of the new C5 Aircross hasn't been revealed, it's anticipated that the SUV will retain its distinctive upright stance, which enhances its practicality. There are also discussions suggesting that the upcoming electric C5 Aircross might offer a three-row seating option. However, this being just an early phase of platform testing, the exterior changes might be introduced at a later stage.

Powertrain Details

The upcoming eC5 Aircross is expected to feature an 86kWh battery paired with a 400V architecture, promising a WLTP range of approximately 500 km. The lineup may offer both single-motor and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations to cater to different performance needs. On top of this, the usual powertrains will remain on offer as well with the updated C5 Aircross.

Keep in mind that this is just an early adoption of platform testing and the final product will debut globally sometime later next year. Considering that the sales of this model have been relatively sluggish in the country, it could be introduced in India to try out its hands within the premium EV space.
