In an unexpected move, Tata Cars is going to change the name of Tigor to Aeries and will launch this compact sedan on September 25, 2026. Introducing the new moniker, the company has published two teasers, giving us a peek into what this car will look like. With that said, let's take a closer look at the Tigor facelift, which Tata is launching under a new name.
Tata Aeries
As of now there is no direct explanation, but we believe Tata is giving a new identity to Tigor, as they want to place it separately in their wide lineup, and that's why the first correct step they took is bringing a new moniker, Aeries. Plus, as the teaser has revealed, it will feature a brand-new design language, along with a new set of features, elevating its premium quotient. Now, as per the design patent images, one thing we noticed is that, this time, Tata has focused a lot on the rear section by making the roofline much taller than before to make sure the headroom isn't compromised. Plus, the third-quarter glass is also there, solidifying our assumption. All in all, the second-row experience will get a major boost and become a major differentiator for people who get confused between Tigor and Tiago.
Tata Aeries Expected Features
This one is simple, as whatever the new Tata Tiago receives, the Aeries will carry. That includes the newly designed interior with a two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel, touch-based automatic climate control, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a digital driver's display. New additions will be blind-spot monitoring, 360-surround view, wireless charging pad, and TPMS. The only differentiator can be dual-tone interior upholstery and an armrest for second-row passengers.
Tata Aeries Powertrain
Tata Aeries will continue with the 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine with 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT and the same transmission setup with its CNG powertrain. Plus, it will continue with Tata's dual-cylinder technology, which frees up boot space, something rivals like Maruti Suzuki Dzire don't offer. Another highlight would be that this car will be able to start on CNG mode.

91Wheels believes this is a smart move to give a new standalone identity to the Tiago extended version, which from Sept 25 will be called Aeries. Customers will think of it as a different car altogether, one sitting a segment above the Tiago. We have already mentioned everything it is expected to feature, but the exciting part would be if Tata does something unexpected and surprises us.
