Tata Harrier EV Design: ICE, But With A Spice

At first glance, the Tata Harrier EV looks reassuringly familiar, as it stays true to the overall design of its ICE sibling, but subtle EV-specific details set it apart. The most obvious change is the blanked-out front grille, complemented by a redesigned bumper that incorporates vertical slats, a styling cue also seen on the Nexon EV and Curvv EV. It rides on striking 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels with aero covers, enhancing both looks and efficiency, while a discreet '.ev' badge on the front doors proudly signals its electric identity. At the rear, the bumper gets a mild makeover with vertical slats integrated into the faux skid plate. Signature modern elements such as the full-width LED daytime running lights, sleek headlamps, and connected LED tail lamps, emain, giving the Harrier EV a familiar yet distinctly contemporary presence on the road.

Interior And Features: A Lot Of Tata's Firsts

Tata Harrier EV Front Passenger Air Vent

Step inside the Harrier EV, and you'll find a cabin that largely mirrors its ICE sibling in design. The big standout, though, is the new 14.53-inch Samsung Neo QLED infotainment screen, a first of its kind in any car, promising sharper visuals and a more premium user experience. Complementing it is a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a modern four-spoke steering wheel featuring an illuminated Tata logo. Practicality hasn't been overlooked either, with 502 litres of boot space (expandable to 999 litres with the second row folded) and the addition of a handy frunk for extra storage up front.

Inside, the Harrier EV blends familiar design with advanced tech, featuring a touch-based HVAC panel and a rotary selector for its six terrain modes (Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, Custom), alongside an electronic parking brake. The SUV comes loaded with features such as a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated and powered front seats, Boss Mode for the rear seat, a 10-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos 5.1, a powered tailgate, vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functionality, four drive modes (Eco, City, Sport, Boost), a fully digital inside rearview mirror, and auto park assist. It debuts Tata's new TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer), which supports connected car features like OTA updates and voice commands. Other highlights include a 540-degree surround camera with kerb proximity alerts and a new DrivePay feature, allowing seamless payments for FASTag tolls and EV charging without the need for a smartphone.

Battery And Range

Harrier EV

The big change with the Harrier EV is, of course, that it's fully electric. Buyers can choose between 65 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs, with a maximum claimed range of up to 627 km on a single charge and a 505 km C75-rated range. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version produces 238 PS, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant adds a 158 PS front motor, delivering a combined 504 Nm of torque. Acceleration is brisk, with a 0-100 km/h time of just 6.3 seconds. Charging is also quick: a 7.2 kW AC charger handles home charging needs, while a 125 kW DC fast charger can take the battery from 20% to 80% in just 25 minutes. Additionally, with Tata's Mega Charger network, it's possible to add up to 250 km of range in only 15 minutes, making long trips much more convenient.

While the pricing starts at Rs 21.49 lakhs ex-showroom, the official bookings will commence from July 2 onwards via dealerships or the official website. It wilk take on the Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, and others in the space.

Verdict

With the electric vehcile segment going towards a more intense showdown with more and more models making their way, the Harrier EV sure makes its presence felt. This feels more empowering for the brand where the Tata Curvv EV failed to create the buzz that they would've hoped for. As for the Harrier EV, the features, longer range and that muscular build equips it beautifully, espeacially taking on the Hyundai Creta EV, which is now starting to pick up pace.
