Tata Motors is gearing up for a game-changing shift in its popular SUVs, Safari and the Harrier. The manufacturers have been eyeing the introduction of petrol powertrains for both cars. Powertrains

Tata Safari

At the heart of this transition, you can expect a new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol unit. Moreover, it is expected to deliver 170 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. These upcoming petrol variants are anticipated to offer both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT unit, which we've seen in the Tata Curvv. Interestingly, they already offer a 1.2-litre petrol motor with their Curvv, which belts out 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque.

What Else?

Tata Harrier

This is going to be the most significant update for the Harrier and the Safari since 2023. Introducing the petrol powertrains will align Tata Motors with their competitors like Mahindra and Hyundai, which already offer petrol options with their mid-size SUVs. While this move is expected to make the Safari and Harrier More accessible due to the price difference between the petrol and diesel powertrains. One can expect a potential price difference of Rs 1 lakh between the two models. Moreover, these two SUVs come equipped with a ton of features already.

While Tata Motors remains tight-lipped about the launch dates, all eyes are currently on the Harrier EV, which is going to be launched on June 3. However, we can expect these petrol variants to debut by the end of this year.
